Hello all.
We are going to be staying at the Poly in November and may upgrade to CL. Plus we plan on eating at Ohana's one night and MAYBE the SOA..

I know I can call ahead and let them know about my son's peanut allergy but do you know if there are tons of "peanut" type dishes?

thank you!

'Ohana serves peanut sauce with the meats, on the side.

It would probably be wise to check and see if peanut oil is used to cook anything.

I found this on another site and thought it may be of some help to you.

"OTHER NOTES: With only a few exceptions, WDW restaurants use only canola oil in food preparation. Peanut oil, however, is used in restaurants featuring Asian cuisine, because of its higher smoke point. (This is an important consideration for items being stir-fried, for example, as other oils tend to burn when used at such high temperatures.)

If you have specific inquiries or would like recommendations regarding the food served at the park restaurants, you are welcome to call the executive chefs or Food and Beverage managers, at the telephone numbers listed below. If no one is immediately available when you call, please be sure to leave a message and a telephone number where you may be reached.

Magic Kingdom Park: 407-824-5967
Epcot: 407-560-7292
Disney-MGM Studios: 407-560-1347
Disney's Animal Kingdom: 407-939-7536
(Please note Walt Disney World Company operates no full-service restaurants in this park.)

thank you both. I wasn't sure if the peanut sauce was placed on the meats or on the side. :thumbsup2

Funny thing about the peanut allergy, but he can have food cooked in peanut oil. For some reason pure peanut oil is generally non-allergenic. :confused3 But I know he is okay with it since we eat so much Chick Fil A! :lmao:

I will give Poly a call and see what they say.. I am not worried about things I can see, i.e a PB&J sandwich.. its more of the items that have sauces on them and I would think that the Poly would have more peanut sauces based on the cuisine..

thanks again guys!

Is your trip over a year away? They could change the menus by the time you get there, so I don't know what good it does to check now.

We ate at Ohana a couple years ago with my 2 peanut-allergic kids without any problems. They didn't serve us the peanut sauce and the kids couldn't have the bread pudding. They got giant bowls of vanilla ice cream instead. Make sure you include the allergy on your ADRs and contact Disney's Special Diets department (email addy is listed under the disAbilities board FAQ). They take care of forwarding your info to each restaurant. The chef will visit your table before you dine to go over safe options. Disney does a terrific job of making sure everyone has a safe dining experience. :goodvibes

thank you! :thumbsup2 its good to hear from someone with an allergy kid..

When it gets closer about 3 -4 months out contact special diets
( go to the disABILITES board and Check out FAQ's for a link) lots of info on allergies over there too.
The chef (& hope it's still TJ :) will come out and speak to you about the allergy and what can be prepared.
the chef will make your plate special to avoid cross contact and serve it seperate from everyone else.

if your child has a severe allergy like a touch/contact or inhale allergy to Peanuts then I would think twice about it as peanut sauce could be dripped on the table, on a chair etc..

no reaction at all when it was on his lips!! crazy! hopefully he will outgrown up, but we still need to be careful.. thank you for all the info and I will go over to the disabilites section.. you guys are the best! :)
