If you've already booked an Internet only flight and a lower Ding flight appears, how can you rebook? Do you have to take a credit for the earlier bookings? Can you do it online? thanks!

FYI. In May, I wanted to change our ressies from a Click n save fare to a Ding fare. You cannot do that on the "Change your flight" screen. The Ding flight must be a whole new reservation. A little gymnastics and I saved about $100.

How I got around it so I didn't lose my original flights and using the same money I had already paid: I called customer service and at the same time I was booking online the new Ding flights. When it comes up with payment, I had to wait for the customer service rep to cancel our flights and the money became immediately available. According to my friend who happens to be a CSR at SW, sometimes the money isn't available right away. It might take a minute to an hour for it to become available if I had cancelled online and then try to rebook. I got a credit towards future flights which I am going to use soon. It took a few minutes to do this. The CSR was very nice and worked great.

The other day I found myself in a situation where I got a fabulous DING! ($39 down and $39 back  ) but I already had purchased my tickets. I found this thread to be very helpful:

I booked SW and now i was Ding with a better deal, can i change my rate to the ding

No cancellation fee. I've done this several times. I'll open two browser windows. First, pull up the Ding fare and take it all the way to the payment screen. Then in another window, cancel the original ticket. Then, go back to the Ding window and use the ticketless funds under the original confirmation # for payment. The difference in price will remain under the original confirmation # to be used as payment anytime up to a year from when the flight was first booked. It's really quite easy! :thumbsup2
I simply followed mareed's instructions and was able to get my lower Ding fares!!

Just be careful and DON'T do what I did and book the flights backwards  , i.e. Orlando to Philly instead of Philly to Orlando. I had a dickens of a time to get them to change the legs for me because Dings are computer generated and are only good for certain times.

You do have to take a credit for the earlier booking but hey, there's another reason for a future trip. Also, you can do it online.

If you do have any reservations about doing it yourself, just call SW and one of the agents will walk you through it but I'm sure you will be fine if you just follow the instructions above.

HTH!
