So we currently have CR MK view reserved thru a TA for 12/6 to 12/13, DDP, park hoppers, plane tickets.....
We purchased a DVC membership at AKV Aug. UY about 2 weeks ago and received the 270 incentive points. We figured we could cancel the above trip and rebook with the incentive pts and our 2007 banked points. I tried to do it a few times with MS and there were no rooms available. Then I figured with the amount of points we have we can extend a few nights. So I call MS last Friday and was able to get a CR BLV room for the 6-15th, with DDP. Called the airline (used miles on 3 out of 4 tickets) to change the tickets on the return leg with little to no hassle.
Then Monday the Lightning struck. Call on voice mail at home from MS, the
CM that took our ressie called, they had to cancel our ressie b/c the computer would not allow us to use our incentive points past the 7 month window. Now we either have to use our 2007/2008 points up for the ressie or wait till the 7 month window!!!!!!
Although we won't die if we can't get the CR for the dates we want our family is extremely upset. If we use our points then we would have to use our incentive points by mid Feb. 09, meaning more $$$$ spent that we didn't want too.
Any suggestions/help/donations, just kidding.

from what I've read on other threads here, I thought the 7 month window only applied to DVC resorts, not if you used the developers points for the other resorts. You might call back and ask for a supervisor (or look through your paperwork on the developers points for details).

I was under this same impression. We were going to use some developer points for DL when we did an add-on last August and our guide had told us that the 7 month rule related to DVC resorts only. There are no 7 month guidelines for non-DVC properties so how could it be that you would have to wait until a 7 month mark?

We called MS today and we were booking Oct. She offered to put in our dev points. She actually made the reservation using them and I questioned the 7 month window. She said "Oh yeah I can't do that, let me change it". I would have been really *miffed* if I had gotten a msg it was canceled due to her error. We also got the last 2 rooms available.

Is this common? What the OP experienced as well as me?

Should I need to know every rule. Don't they have some responsibility to guide us?

Well I did look it up and it it true (it's in bold print) All Dev. Points can only be booked at the 7 month window. My guide actually called back and apologized because she was wrong and the person she asked was wrong. Too bad we changed our flights based on it..... Crossing my fingers for the 7 month mark that we will actually get something we want.

I would try to get them to rebook now. It was THEIR mistake, not yours. It sounds like you already changed everything around based on the information you were given. I would press to speak to the highest person possible and do a conference call with MS, your guide and HER BOSS! GOOD LUCK!

Developer Points are incentive points that we received when we purchased AKV recently. The promotion we took advantage of was 270 Dev. Pts if you buy 200+ points in SSR or AKV. You have one year to use them from your contract date and they cannot be banked or borrowed.
We misunderstood and thought we could use them at a non-DVC resort outside the 7 month window.

Well it is in the closing doc's specifically. I should have paid more attention.
Again, I just hope there's room when we book 7 months out.

I had no idea such a thing existed!
With any luck we'll be able to cash in on a deal like that when CR starts selling! Not sure if we want CR or AKL though, it's a toss up. We'll have to wait and see the point value and what not for CR.
