Dilemma over a Delta Ticket.

Last year I bought a ticket March 24th to Tucson that I chose not to use. The ticket clearly says non transferable but when I cancelled the ticket agent told me that I could transfer it to a family member for $50. I called today to see if I could give it to DS21 for FLL. (I can't and I wasn't surprised) Now I have a ticket that I must ticket by March 24th or loose. I can fly with it until the end of the year. Now that doesn't seem like such a big problem except DH is going to Iraq and won't be back before summer. I thought I could plan a long weekend for next Thanksgiving but the ticket prices are over $500 already! Do you think that they will "drop" or should I plan a long weekend to WDW before we go to Hawaii in August? DH has a ticket that he has to use too but he has longer to use it. Columbus Day weekend might be another choice. I will have to work around a college schedule (DS 18 will be commuting). Any thoughts? The ticket is only worth $258 minus the $50 reticketing fee.

You might clarify the rules of that ticket. I am a ticket agent with a major airline, and our rules state that travel must BEGIN with one year from original ISSUE date. So by our rules, you must begin your new trip by March 24th. Most airlines are fairly consistent. That's why I suggest you check.

I did check and I was told specifically that I had to be ticketed by March 24 and must complete travel by Dec. 06. Saturday is not usually a good day to get a really accurate answer so I will call again on Monday. Thanks for the response however.

Is there a way your credit card company could get involved? Maybe they could go to bat for you. I cannot tell you the number of tickets last year alone that I never ended up using just on Southwest (at least 3 round trips that we never got around to using in time) Maybe you could donate the ticket to a charity and at least get the tax write off.

Probably not. I knew it was a non refundable ticket when I bought it and like all airline tickets, non transferable.
