Digital Picture storage device?

I looked into them, but went with a netbook instead. If you have internet capability on your phone and prefer a smaller size, then this might make sense for you. If you don't, then a netbook might be better when traveling. Either will do a good job for picture storage. Another solution might be to just pick up some extra memory cards. It just depends on your shooting style, as in how many pictures you plan to take and what type of files you use (RAW vs JPEG, etc).

I've thought about it, but I've never done it. You might also consider the Epson P5000 or P3000 or the Hyperdrive Colorspace units.

I've never done it for a couple of reasons. First, I don't like putting all of my pictures on a single hard drive. That means I'd need to buy two units or one unit and two drives and swap. Second, I usually have my laptop with me, so I use that to back up to a couple of portable drives.

I've got a camping trip coming up this summer, but I'll probably only be away from the car (and hence the laptop) for about 3-4 days. It'll be cheaper to buy extra memory cards to cover that time period than the device.

I would only get one if I was taking a trip so long that it was cheaper to buy enough gear to do dual backups and during which I couldn't use a laptop.

I considered a storage device a few years ago but went for more memory cards instead. As it is I empty my cards off once a day when I'm out and about. So I have the laptop when I'm away from home with mobile broadband if I want to upload.

For portability, I have a Western Digital 750 gb portable hard drive. The JOBO is 160 gb. I paid less than a $100 for mine. If you are going to use like a portfolio then it would work, but for straight storage, I would go with external hard drives.

if you are looking for straight storage at home , and do a lot of photography, I'd even skip external drives, and get a dual dock and use internal drives
