Hi, we are taking our digital camera on our vacation but we only have two memory cards. I have heard that somewhere in each park you can copy your memory cards onto a disk, but I would like to know how well this works and how much does it cost? Because if its too much trouble or money we will just buy another memory card.

Yes, you can have the images on your memory card transfered to CD at the photo centers in each park. I understand it can take from 2 to 5 hours. You have to leave the memory card with them to do it. I think the cast is about $13 a disk and they can put up to 120 images per disk. My recommendation would be to either get a few more memory cards or if you have a laptop, take that with you and copy the images to it each night.

I would definitely pick up another 1 or 2 one gig cards, memory is cheap today. Enjoy.

Memory cards are cheap right now....I recently got a 1 GB SanDisk SD card at Costco for about $40. With my camera, that'll hold about a thousand pictures.

IMO, you'd be better off buying another card with plenty of room, than always worrying about whether or not it's time to dump your pictures onto a CD.

I also vote for buying more memory, you can always reuse it.

when we droped our card off in 2004 at mk, they lost it. couldn't locate it at all. we lost 2 days of pics on the card.
i vote for getting more cards before u leave. it can seve money in the long run!

check out buy.com for memory card deals. I just got a 2 gb patriot brand for ~$50 and it holds 1400 pictures on my camera's highest setting (5mp camera) if that helps you any. I would just get another card rather than risk it with a cd transfer at the parks.

As for ease and cost, I would just buy a couple of more cards. It would definately be easier than giving up your card for a few hours just to get them downloaded.

Try this unit. It's a portable (battery powered) 30G external hard drive. Works great as an alternative to a laptop and you'll never get 30G of camera cards for $60 :thumbsup2

Oops... I can't post URLs (yet)

Go to geeks 'dot' com and search on 'A-30GBMGEAR-K1'. I have one similar, but it also has MP3 playback capability (they have one on their site, but you have to add your own HD)

You can have your pics downloaded to CD for you at the camera shops at the front of each of the 4 theme parks. Cost is $12.99 per CD, limit 120 pics per CD.

There are also self-service download machines in the camera shops in MK and MGM, and in the Kodak ImageWorks in Epcot's Imagination pavilion. Cost is the same, but I don't know if they limit the number of pics per CD.

Those who have a car at WDW have a much better option - drive off-site to one of the local Walgreens stores. All of the local Walgreens have 24-hour photo centers which download pics to CD for you at a cost of only $3.99 per CD, for as many pics as the CD will hold.

I take my 60gb iPod photo and an Apple digital camera connector. I can offload pics if need right there in the parks, only takes a few minutes. you can then view the pics on the iPod before you delete them from the memory card.

Works a treat, camera connector is about $25. Works with the Video iPods too.

Like others have said memory prices are low it would be better just to pick up more cards. I have picked up 3 1 gig compact flash cards for $20.00 after instant and mail in rebates. Thats $8.00 more then it would cost to burn them at the parks.

Also, as an avid photo taker,

You can buy an external hard=drive (best buy or anywhere like that) for about the same price as a 2GB card, and you'll get about 100 GB of harddrive space instead of 2 GB on a memory card.

Each night you just hook it up to a laptop (if you have one) and just transfer. It's a great way to go.

I dont have much choice. I have a very high powered camera that only holds 100 photos on a 2GB card and after buying 3 2GB cards, I have resorted to the use of an external harddrive on my trips.

Exactly! If you can, just wait until at night and go to Walgreens. Not only is it cheaper, IT'S MUCH FASTER!

I used the self-serve machines in the MK one time and that was the last time! We stood there for 45 minutes trying to have a cd made. Absolutely rediculous!

We recently bought two 1G sandisk cards from Office Depot for about $16 each! Check ebay there are alot of cards for sale on there, just watch the shipping charges.
WE bring our laptop just for the purpose of downloading our pictures each day, I would hate to loose the card and all my pictures!

Could you pass on where you got those cards and rebates? Downloads aside, everybody can always use some more memory!
