Digital Camera in the Parks

We are about to leave for our first visit to WDW. I am bringing my digital camera but I am not sure what to expect in the way of the number of pictures I might take. If I run out of room on my disk will I be able to buy another card or should I buy an extra before I go. I have about 250 pics available (it is a 526 card)

You'll find with a digital camera you'll take lots of pics. I brought home about 750 from our last trip, and there's still a lot of stuff I missed. Plus, since you can delete ones you don't like, you can experiment. Here's a night shot in TommorowLand during MNSSHP. I took a bunch to get one good one.

Have a spare card with you, you probably won't be able to find one in the parks.

One thing I find *very* helpful: I take the video cables with me, so I can preview my photos on the TV in the room each night. This really cuts down on the mountain of photos I need to weed through when I get home, and I can delete the "non-keepers" right away.

I was wondering the same thing....someone not sure if I read it or was told, said that you can burn your digi pics to a CD at the Kodak places. Is that true? If so, are they in each park and what is the approximate cost? I shoot a digital SLR, so my pics are large (a 256mb card only holds 60 pics) and will need to either really stock up or download quite often!

I did indeed take my memory card into the Kodak place on Main Street and burned my card to a CD.

Now of course things can go wrong burning a CD, so I'd try to see if you could read it before deleting the images from the card (I think you can read it on the PC there for burning). It does take a little while (depending on the number of pictures). They charged me $12.95 for the CD.

They do sell various memory cards there, but they are about 2-3x what you'd pay elsewhere. I'm sure you could find a place right off property with memory cards, though.

If you camera allows it, don't take pictures in highest resolution. Especially if you are not polanning to make 8x10 prints, the lower resolutions are fine and will give you hundreds more pictures.

If you need to unload your digital card, you can go to any of the camera stores in the parks and empty your memory card onto a cd disc. I did mine at the magic kingdom, in the front where Tony's Town Square Restaurant is located. Sorry that I can't remember the name of the store, but they have always been very helpful to me.

Thank you so much!!! I do plan on going to Costco and stocking up on another card or three but having the option of burning to a CD is a Godsend! I do enlarge quite a bit (scrapbooker...what can I say?) so the resolution is what I'm after. Thanks again!

I agree with WebmasterKathy... a spare is always the way to go.. if possible. I take I have a Sony Mavica.. it takes both disks as well as memory sticks. I take both with me just incase.. we take alot of pictures.

I took over 300 pics last time and that was after deleting all the so-so ones. I plan on buying another 1GB card before our next trip and still may have to use the option of burning them to disk.

Definately take another card -

I tried to do it in MGM and they told me they would have to keep the camera overnight and they would deliver it to me the next morning -

I ended up going to Walgreens and making a cd there - but make sure you check the pictures - only about half of mine transferred -

I thought I've seen memory cards for sale, but only certain types. For instance I didn't see Smartmedia, which is why my camera uses.

I would say bring another card, or if you have a laptop bring that.
I bring my laptop(lock it in room safe), and at the end of the day, just bring photos all into iphoto, get rid of ones I dont want(and then I connect to internet and put on webpage). this way you can take as many pics as you want without having to get another card or spending $ on burning to a cd to save space.

I got a very nice dig Sony 5.1 mp for Christmas. I am scared of it! I just bought another memory card with the $20 Sony discount you get with the camera. Now I don't know what to do with it! Our June trip my 35 mm gave up the ghost although we didn't know it until we got home and developed 11 roles of almost useless pics!! I really am scared I will mess up and lose my pics again! Help! What should I do? I am thinking of picking up a 35mm and taking that with me. I not a techy idiot; just worried about loosing priceless pics on my first mommy & me trip!

Despite having a digital camera, I always buy 1 or 2 disposable cameras to take with me. I just check the papers every week for a coupon for a dollar or 2 off the camera and then buy then at the cheapest price I find. Generally its about 3-5 a camera.

There are some times that I don't want to carry the expensive carmera all day long so I just toss a disposable one in my fannypack. I do this especially at IoA since the rides can give you some good bumps to the fanny pack with the camera in it. This way if anything goes bad with the camera (which has happened to me), you will be able to keep some pics without having to pay the $12 for one down in Disney

I have a 4.0 megapixal and I took two cards with me. I took around 800 pictures. I definately found I would go through and get rid of the bad ones. I was able to take a lot to get just the right shot. Have a digital is great!

We brought our laptop and loaded the pictures up every night.
