Digital Camera - I just decided and Canon isn't making the S30 any more

Hi,

After doing numerous seaches and reading Zurg's advice and camera reviews I decided the Canon S30 was the way to go.

A local camera shop convinced me to wait a week before buying it because the big camera shop in Las Vegas last week was releasing the new models so they thought the prices might be better.

Turns out just the opposite happened. The S30 is discontinued and either high priced or out of stock on the online places I checked.

So - what do you think of the Canon S45? I even looked at the G3 but I didn't like the way you could see the side of the lens zooming through the viewfinder.

The S45 is about $100 more than the S30 - lowest price I've found is $469 and I believe the local camera shop will match that.

Any thoughts? Thanks

No advice on Canons. But I can relate. Don't ya just hate it when you FINALLY decide....and it's too late. LOL My life story.

I can't decide what Olympus model to get. Good luck in your research again!

DH bought me the Cannon 330, my first digital camera at xmas from buydig.com I really like it and we had good service from buydig.com

I know you want the more higher end Cannons. Both the cameras you were interested in are showing instock at buydig

Thanks for the help....

Zurg - would you choose the A70 over the other two or are you suggesting it as an alternative because its a little less expensive.

Do you have an opinion on the S45?

I can find the S30 but I kills me that it cost more than a week ago. The A45's I'm finding for about $450.

Thanks

Just moving this up - Zurg with all your insight I really would like your input before I decide. Help please :D

I just read the reviews and it sounds like the best of Canon's entry level cameras with features and the new DIGIC processor found on it's new high end cameras. It has an autofocus illuminator for focusing in low light. Uses AA batteries so you can get good rechargables and a Maha charger for a lot less money [see my opus]. Takes ad on lenses. Movies are AVI so they you can edit them with just about anything. Small and light but not to tiny to use.

Zurg is a cheap guy (you wouldn't beleive the over head of running an empire) so he has an eye on value. This canera's feature set and price look like a good deal (this week as soon as you buy a camera a better one comes out for less money)
