Both our digital camera and camcorder broke we are deciding if we should buy a combo or seperate ones. On the ones I looked at I cant find how many mps the camera part is. I am also afraid that if one part breaks we are in trouble again (Im one of those skeptics who never bought a tv/vcr or vcr.dvd combo). Does anyone have one and would recommend it. Thanks
Tara

I have one and my parents have one, and we also have digital cameras. I'd suggest getting one of each. First of all because if you're going to a party, something small where you just want to carry a small camera you can just bring the digital camera and not have to lug around a camcorder that will most likely be larger than a digital cam. second of all because you can buy a digital camera that takes much better pics than most of the camcorders can take. (not as many 'adjustments' on the camcorder still photos (flash, modes, etc), so sometimes they will be too dark, blurry or other things.) This is just my own personal opinion though.

new Sony DVDR or the Hitachi version - which was cheaper by about $150 for essentially the same product.

Anyway, I pointedly asked the sales guy how many mp's the both had for still shots..."you'll find you won't use the still shot application much anyway"...

Asked again...how many megapixels? "Well, as you can see the quality is excellent"

So now I'm at the point where regardless of what he says, we're not buying the camera, from him, anyway!!:D

"I don't know how to be clearer with this question...how many megapixels?!!"

(...and by now you're probably tired of my rant!!);)

The answer is 1.

Apparently, Hitachi's newer version, to be released this Spring, will be a higher megapixel on the still camera.
So for now, we're still 8mm and KodakPicture CD people!!:sunny:

Hope this helps!!:sunny:

Just for future information: the dvd cams only hold about a half hour of video on each cd, as of right now, this will probably change in the future, but in my opinion it's not worth it, when you can get a good 60 - 90 min. on a mini dv tape or digital 8.

the mp of the still camera is in most cases very poor.

I use still camera 99% of the time, get a good still camrea is my 2 cents.
