I was wondering how difficult it is to trade out your points for another vacation other than a DVC resort. For example, an Interval International resort.
Difficult is relative. some things are difficult, some are easy. Most trade options are not a good value. With II, the top choices and peak times are hard to get. But there are ways to improve your chances and experience. In general I'd say research you options and do not rely on DVC to guide you. Plan ahead and request early. In general I'd say any request should ideally be in a full year out but some are best to be in a full 2 years out. Plan to ride the request to under 2 months before the week to see if you will get it or not. Remember this is not like hotel reservations, they generally do not have what you want sitting there and essentially will never have the truly good stuff when you call, so be prepared to put in an ongoing request.

Take a look at the recent thread, II Ka'anapali. Although the thread is mainly a discussion of specific resorts on Maui, the thread also deals with the larger issue of II availability.
