Yeah, this has nothing to do with control and everything to do with a medical need. He has NEVER been able to eat without help. Having said that, we always get and extra plate and an "all done bowl." When he decides he is done, rather than launching the food across the room because he can't stand the sight of it, he must kiss the food good bye and place it into the bowl. At least he touches it with his mouth that way. Sometimes, he may take a bite or two of items he is kissing good bye. If he, at 2 years old, didn't drink Formula or milk out of a bottle, he would be strictly tube fed because he cant at this time eat enough to sustain life. He is in the 1st percentile for height and weight for his age. Things are getting better, but we still have a long road ahead of us.
For Chase, sometimes it is as simple as the shape of the food. Like he will not eat a spaghetti noodle. He will eat penne pasta- with Lots of parm cheese. He might dip the noodle in pasta sauce, on a good day. He will eat carrot sticks if they are julliened, but not if they are shaped like a carrot. He won't eat anything pureed. He loses it at the sight of a bowl full of mush. But will lick butter off bread. He will not lick margarine. I have no idea how he could tell the difference at 2 but he can! Food can't be too cold or too hot. He list of wills and will nots are simply strange and can't be explained, but he is working hard and has at least stopped having stress induced seizures when we make him sit in his high chair.
