OK so i currently have 160 pts at SSR in a December UY that i purchased direct.

I am now shopping for more points probably a resale. If i find one that is not a December UY I undersatand i would have a different Member number. I also know that i can transfer points from one contract to another and that is a final transaction. Here is my question....Once I transfer points what are the banking and borrowing rules associated with the points transfered in?

Should i just look for a resale that is a Dec UY to not complicate my life more than what it already is???????

You can't transfer banked/borrowed points, but points transferred in can be banked.

banked/borrowed pts cannot be transferred. BUT transferred pts can be banked (they cannot be borrowed, however.)

when you transfer pts in, the transferred pts still maintain their old home resort window and UY (so you'd need to bank based on their UY, not your SSR contract.)

Should i just look for a resale that is a Dec UY to not complicate my life more than what it already is???????

this is easiest IMO.

I just did the same thing, had dec use year and looked to buy resale. I was looking for AKL and almost half of the ones available seemed to be Dec UY. Don't know if that was just luck or a reason but I had multiple contacts to pick from.

Let's say you buy a Feb UY contract for BWV.

Transferring from FEB to DEC, the points still hold a Feb UY and BWV 11mon booking privileges. They would need to be banked by 9/30. Your DEC pts stay the same.

I just found this piece out today when I tried to do so: As of today (May), you can only transfer your 2013 FEB points. You can transfer 2014 FEB points on 2/1. You can only transfer 2012 DEC points. 2013 DEC points can't be transferred until 12/1. So you can never borrow transferred points, can only bank them.

You can only do 1 transfer per contract for each UY. So if you transfer FEB to DEC today, on 12/1 you can transfer your DEC points but your FEB account cannot accept a transfer until 2/1/14. Make sense? :badpc:

Also, your direct points transferred to the resale account loses all "direct point" privileges (so no Disney collection, etc).

Other things I learned today:

Pro for 2 UY contracts: If you buy a Dec UY via resale, all points transferred into that account would not have the direct point privileges even if the points are coming from an account purchased direct. I guess once you mix in resale points they restrict you that way.

Con for 2 UY contracts: You can't see your transferred points online. All booking with the points have to be via MS. A bit of a pain to keep track of how many points you have left.

I have some transferred points from another member in my account remaining and I believe they are December 2012 UY.

When I called about banking them, the rep told me that transferred points "automatically" are good for 2 years and you don't have to actually call to bank them - i.e. I don't have to do anything and they will be good until November 31, 2014.

Anyone else have experience with this? Was this rep crazy or right? I just don't want to trust 1 rep and then run into the problem of the points expiring this November because I didn't bank them!

News to me, I would double check.

To the OP, some people have good reasons for more than one UY, but most don't.

I would pick the best UY and stick to it. Why make life harder than it already is? Can you live with more than one UY, sure, but it's double the work and after one mistake or problem you will be kicking yourself.

This would be very important to me.

If I am looking for transferred points, chances are I want the 11 month window for something that is hard to book. I do not want to be an hour behind those who can book online!

If you need more points for your home resort and you get a transfer of points from your same use year home resort, the points will show up online and you can book online using them.

We had a BLT and SSR contract Aug UY then added SSR oct UY on. When I transferred Oct SSR to Aug to book THV at 11 months things went hay wire! My account started showing 1100 BLT points (we only had 285) and SSR showed 0. It took MS about 6 WEEKS to fix the problem and I was very nervous since I had booked THV and BLT for NYE!!! It did work out in the long run but it was a pain in the neck! We sold the Oct SSR recently and decided we would stick with Aug UY for any SSR and BLT contracts. I would consider another UY IF I was buying a large enough contract (200 or more points) at a different resort where I would book a trip every 2 years at that resort with the points but would stick to same UY at each resort!

I have Apr BWV and transferred in BWV points from a different UY. When I called MS, they told me transferred points never show up on the online system. Not sure if it's because my account is a mix of direct and resale? It did take over an hour with MS to transfer the points. They blamed that it was because my VGF contract had not closed. Not sure why that would matter since they've already charged the full balance to my Visa
