Different Resort than rest of the family

I was able to grab 9 days in a one bedroom at Beach Club around Memorial Weekend (never stayed there before and so excited to be so close to Epcot). Now My brother (family of 4) and parents say they want to join us. I have enough points to put them in 2 separate studios but of course BCV studios are gone. Saratoga studios are open and so is is Kidani. My family of 3 stayed at Kidani last year and loved the resort so much. This is my brother’s family and my parents first Disney property stay and I thought the savana view would be more magical than Saratoga (although more points). My question is, is it a pain to be at different resorts than your whole party? We all will have our own cars and drive separate to the parks/hotels anyways. I don’t want them to feel left out of Beach Club.. There is still availability to switch resorts as of now. I have a Beachclub resale contract that passed ROFR so should I just be patient and stay there on a trip without my family (we do go twice a year and my extended family doesn’t go very often). Thanks.

I assume that the plan is to do most things together. Personally, I would stay at the same resort for convenience and enjoying time together at the pool, hanging out in the rooms, etc. If nobody is going to be doing anything together at the resort then it might not make much of a difference though.

You are a much nicer person that I am. I'd be saying to people who invited them along on my vacation and expected us to find rooms for them "I'm sorry, I didn't plan on guests this time, and the rooms are booked up - lets plan a vacation together when I can get the eleven month window and have plenty of points to use.

But since you are willing to sacrifice your vacation on the alter of family togetherness and pay for the whole thing, I'd book rooms at VAKL for everyone and stay together.

One good thing is that OTHERS will be at the same resort . You know how to get to the other resort if need be or the other two families can work together to get to the parks

Since you are buying that BC contract & will soon have 11 month access to BC & thus many years to enjoy the BC, I’d simply move to AKV to be w/ the family for this trip - who knows how many trips you’ll be able to enjoy w/ extended family plus you loved last years stay at AKV. Do note ‘traveling with’ on your reservations in hopes of getting villas near each other since those Kidani hallways are long!

You are all the best. Reconfirming what I knew deep down even though my heart didn’t want to let go of BCV. Thanks for the fast responses. I love my extended family (especially with my 2 nieces ages 5&7). I’ll book BCV next year.

We've stayed at a different resort than our family. We really only saw each other at the parks and one outside park dinner. It was also inconvenient for the kids to swim together due to travel times between resorts.

What about trying to find them a room at boardwalk? It’s close enough and a beautiful walk or boat ride a away for hanging out together? It’s a big enough resort that a waitlist could come through compared to BCV.

BCV owner here and at 11 Months one DS asked asked to go to WDW with us over 4 night Columbus weekend, so I booked two 1 bedrooms, one for them, family of 4, one for me, DH and DSis.

5 months later, our other DS wondered if they could join us. In the 6 months, by waitlisting and stalking, I did eventually get them a two bedroom at BCV. They understood from the beginning that they could be in a different resort, but it turned out that even at BCV, during a holiday weekend, during Food and Wine, during the 50th celebration I could piece together a whole family celebration.

Best wishes to you as you decide how to handle your family’s vacation.

It’s me again with a new problem! I took everyone’s suggestion and changed my BCV reservation to Kidani to be at the same resort with the extended family. I did this change last month but am now finally getting around to linking the reservation on the Disney site. When I linked my reservation number into the disney website it still shows Beach Club as the resort. I double checked the DVC website and it definitely shows Kidani. is this a problem I need fixed for online checkin or it doesn’t matter as long as the DVC website is correct?

If you start the online check-in it should fix it.

This is screaming AKL GV at me, and it's not impossible to book... Boy would that be magical with this much family at once. Or maybe 2BR + studio?

LOL! There was a 2 bedroom available for a little while when I was modifying Beach Club to Kidani. I almost pushed it but I do like a little separation from the family too. Separate resorts are too far but it’s nice to unwind away from them too LOL. My own family will be in a 1bedroom. I got a studio for my parents and another studio for my brothers family. I’ll ask to be somewhat in the same wing but it doesn’t matter if we are on separate floors. We’ll just meet each other at the pool or the parks anyways since some people in our group sleep in and others wake up early.

Email, chat or call MS and have them put a "traveling with" notation on all three reservations. That lets the room assigners know to put you as close together as they can - at least in the same wing!

Definitely do this! Kidani is a long slog from one end of a wing to the other, so you definitely want to try to be near each other if possible.
