I am hoping to book a cruise for the fall of 2005 and have never cruised anywhere before. My biggest question at this point is what category stateroom is recommended. I've been cosidering a Cat. 9, and was wondering the advantages/disadvantages. I'm trying to keep things within a reasonable budget and any insight into what you get for the $$ would be appreciated.

BTW there will be 4 of us, DH, DD 7, DS 6.

Thanks for your help!!

We booked a Category 6 and found the verandah to be great for nap time. We could sit out there and read while DS6 took a nap to recharge. More room, but also more money. Sorry, no info on Cat. 9

Hi , welcome to the boards,
in a cat 9 you have an outside stateroom with porthole, you'll get some natural light and they sleep up to 4 ( so do cat 10,11 and 12) you get a split bathroom and all the facilities you have access to on the ship are the same .
disadvantages all are on deck 1 and 2 which aren't as convenient as higher decks, some people don't like to be on a low deck, some do , its'a personal choice. thats about it, there are some porthole rooms that have obstructed views if you need to have some sunlight , they are priced at cat 10 but are in demand and go quick they are room numbers 5020,5022,5024,5520,5522 and 5524 they are on deck 5 , you can check out pictures of these rooms at cast away club . com ( don't leave spaces and stick a www. in front of it ) as i said these go quick but give you cat 9 at cat 10 price. If you can forgo the sunlight a popular deck is deck 7 category 10 aft, they have access to a small sunbathing deck that is still a bit of a secret. great for ordering room service and taking coffee and cake out in the mornings. p.s you get the same amount of room in a cat 10 as you do in a 9.
Happy cruising.

I also ECHO the thoughts of Traycie2201

Go for cat 10 Deck five
and u can see actual pictures at this site witch is the same as
other poster but with a link....

www.disneycruiser.com and look understaterooms
we have stayyed several times and for your first cruise would be A great spot and Keep the budget down, as there is atleast a $300.00 difference from cat 9 to cat 10

U also may ask for one of the stateroom numbers or all of them when u book,
If they have it it is yours ...
And it is on deck 5 verses deck 2 were the Cat 9 rooms are..
I feel it is a better location than deck 2 cat 9...

One advantage of the Cat. 9 vs. Cat. 10 is that the Cat. 9's have a split bath. With 4 of you in the room, it's a must. We've stayed in 9's on Deck 2 two times now and LOVED IT! The first time we went through a bad storm and people from higher decks were coming down to the lower decks because you didn't feel the motion as much. Just something to consider.

Just wanted to correct something the previous poster said: the category 10 staterooms also have the split bath. We stayed in a category 10 stateroom on our 4-day cruise a couple of years ago, and liked it very much. But we did get a category 9 stateroom for our 7-day cruise in a couple of weeks, as we would like to have a porthole this time around.

See that is the Greatness of the 6 cat 10 cabins on deck 5
u get a porthole but at a lower price and if u look at the pictures on the site provided the Obstruction is very little...

So u still get to See out, 5020 or 5520 are the better of the 6 but the other still provide a great view as well , for a first time cruise this option would be fine,

hard to get yes as u know all the others that know this well known Disney secret ... may have booked them already...

Thanks for the info. I'll be having fun over the next few weeks planning this trip!!!

Others have covered the "room stuff" pretty well.

Ah, but what do you get for the $$. If you can spring the big bucks for a cat 1, 2 or 3 you can pick your dinning rotation, make spa and palo ressies in advance, can eat dinners in your room off of any menu on the ship and you get to board the ship a few minutes before the rest of us.

Other than that EVERYONE "gets" the same things. First come first served at the theater and shows and pools. We all get great service from the wait staff and wonderful food. We all get to participate in any activity (age restrictions apply). Bottom line everyone gets the same common services and the only difference in price is what room you're staying in. On some cruise lines this is not the case - different "classes" of rooms get different services and dinning experiences. On DCL you can get the least expensive room and have the same experience as those staying in a cat 4 or lower (the differences for cat 1, 2 & 3 have been noted and are really not to significant)

Welcome aboard and happy sailing.:boat:

You got questions, we got answers.
