I've read reports that the North Garden Wing in particular needs work because it's been overbooked: Shades of Green guests have had to use it for the last year. However, i stayed at the South Garden last March and it was in terrific condition. You may luck out. I'd say give both wings the benefit of the doubt.
Also, be sure to ask for a first-floor. All first floor rooms have a patio. All other rooms lack balconies. If you luck out and get a room facing Bay Lake or the Water Bridge (you can request it), you're getting one of the prettiest, most isolated rooms in WDW. There's nothing like enjoying yoru early morning coffee listening to the loons while on your patio, or an after-dinner nightcap
