Difference between BC and YC

I have read a few threads but cant really determine what the difference is between the Yacht Club and the Beach Club. We have a reservation for the Beach Club in December. I really wanted Poly or Wilderness Lodge but they didnt have any rooms avail with our discount. I think the Beach Club looks great, but they also had the Yacht Club avail and I wanted to see what the differences are.

Can anyone help?

They are very similar, but here are some of the differences:

Theming and room decoration are different.
BC lobby restaurant has a character breakfast, while the YC lobby restaurant does not; as a result, the BC lobby is often more crowded and louder than the YC lobby.
BC store has a CS place to get sandwiches, breakfast items, etc.; there is no food in the YC store
Most YC rooms have full balconies; few BC rooms have full balconies.
BC is somewhat closer to Epcot; YC is somewhat closer to the DHS boat dock (although it is only a matter of a couple hundred yards in either case).
The resorts share buses to MK in the morning, but the buses stop at the YC first; on crowded mornings, it is not unheard of for a bus to get full at the YC, causing it either not to stop at BC or very few BC guests to be able to get on the bus; this can lead to longer wait times at the BC (overall, however, bus service is very good).
Portions of Illuminations can be seen from some lagoon view YC rooms; this is not the case for BC rooms.

None of these differences are major (except perhaps the balcony issue) and they are both wonderful resorts.

I would add that because the breakfast restaurant at the YC is not a character meal it is less crowded there and more reasonably priced with great food.

The BC lobby is beachy-themed. The YC is polished wood with model ships & a HUGE globe (we really like it there).

Really, I see them as one big hotel with separate front desks. The restaurants, shops, gym and pool are shared by both resorts, as is the transportation.

The balcony was the main reason for use choosing the YC the first time. We have had some great views of the BW and Illuminations from some of our YC rooms.

It's a great resort, no matter BC/YC. Enjoy!

YC is more swanky in my opinion. I always feel I'm not dressed up enough when I walk through the lobby or the halls. LOL! BC, on the other hand, has a more down-to-earth feel to me. You feel like you're at the beach and sandals or flip flops and shorts are just fine. I think, really, their names sort of give an idea. "Yacht Club" -- yacht, upper class clientele, sailing on luxury ships. "Beach Club" -- sand, T-shirts, folks playing beach volleyball or walking casually along the surf line. My two cents!

We're newbies and are staying at the Poly, but I found this thread helpful. AKL is our next must stay at resort, but YC might be the third.

BC seems much busier because of the DVC

BC has alot more families (because of DVC?) so it seems louder

BC quiet pool is right out in the open on the walkway to Epcot.


We love YC because it is opposite everything I just said

This is one I forgot. The YC quiet pool is tucked back in a very secluded part of the resort grounds (so much so, that I am sure many YC guests don't even know it's there) and there are rarely very many people there. The BC quiet pool is out in the open and gets a lot more traffic. Needless, to say the YC quiet pool is much quieter as a result.

I'll add one more. I always notice more convention people at YC. But you see a lot at BC too, but for some reason it just seems there are more of them at YC.

I totally agree about the feel. I did not feel a bit strange walking through the BC lobby with my flip flops and coverup, but at YC it doesn't feel the same way.

Oh, I just thought of another one. In the BC lobby they had games set-up for the kids, and building blocks, etc, but I've never seen that at YC. Maybe that's another reason why it seems more formal over there.

We have stayed at both. I agree with the posters above on the differences. We have young kids (now age 4 but we've been taking them to BC since age 2) and we really feel more comfortable at BC for all the reasons listed in the above posts. On the flip side of that, if we were travelling without our kids, we'd stay at YC in a heartbeat. I don't mean to make it sound like YC is not kid-friendly, but it is just our own personal feelings in liking the hustle/bustle, bright & beachy atmosphere at BC better with our kids.

We stayed at the Beach Club last year, and I wandered over to the Yacht Club to compare. First, I hated the decor...not into yachts so much. Second, the no quick service food at Yacht Club was a big downer for me, too. It was so nice to stop by and grab breakfast or a sub for lunch. I've stayed at the Poly too, and I can't decide which I like better.

These are all great posts and comparisons! I will just add my 2 cents...I just feel that overall BC is more relaxed than YC. I also love the closer proximity to EPCOT. After a long day at EPCOt, boy every less bit of walking helps. I hate to generalize, but maybe a good rule would be it's a little more kid-friendly at BC than YC. On the other hand, YC is a nice maybe quieter spot for those w/out kids, or just looking for a tad more upper-crust atmosphere.

Either way I feel you can't go wrong. You are attached as a resort, so each amenity is yours...it's just all about where you want to spend your time...
