FACEBOOK GROUP

I just wanted to let you know that I started a Facebook group for this cruise. For our last few cruises it has been nice to connect with people on FB before the cruise too.

On our last cruise a lot of people found the DIS boards through the FB group. It makes it nice to meet new people that do not know about the boards already.

Hi Michelle!

This will be our 4th Disney Cruise with little ones. DD will be almost 5 and DS will be 3 on this cruise. I am very worried about the recent change with the kids clubs! On our last cruise dd was just over 2 and they put her in the clubs b/c she was potty trained and we had a bad experience with a counselor. I do know (from what DCL says) that all counselors have degree in child development.

I'm willing to give the new format a try but can't promise that I won't be sitting in the back of the room watching the whole time. ;)

I would really like your feedback on this if you have experience to share...

I have been thinking the Disney Cruise may not be the vacation for us, as I get more information on the Kid's Club. My daughter will be 4 years old and I found out that she will be in the same room as kids up to 12 years old. I am not comfortable with this at all. I guess they just changed to this format recently.

Also, there is one counselor (I use that term loosely as I hear they are high school students most the time, but not sure if that is correct) per 15 toddlers. That is just crazy!

I'm wondering for those of you who have traveled on DCL before with young children, is DCL geared more for the 6 year olds and above? It really seems to be. I may just wait until the kids are a bit older, maybe 6 and 8.

My son will be two, but he will be in the nursery, which I'm much more comfortable with. If the nursery allowed my 4 year old too, I would be more inclined to use that for both kids.

Awesome! I am joining now.

For those who are staying at port the night before...have you booked your room at a hotel yet? I recently booked at the DoubleTree in San Pedro. Would love to do a meet there the night before (if it hasn't already been scheduled).

They don't always make an announcement. That is something that I hope they make a little better in the future. My girls did miss things simply bc they did not know it was time to ask to move over.
Yes the vacation was truly amazing! We were surrounded by amazing friends, the med and the magic! It was just wonderful. By the time we got to the med though the girls loved being on board so much they did not want to be off the ship! When we were at the collisium in Rome all they kept asking was to go back to the ship. I told them I waited my whole life to be there, lol!
Thanks for the heads up on the clubs and activities. Maybe I will have to give my kids a watch with an alarm set or something when they want to move clubs.

Your statement about being at the Coliseum made me laugh. That would be my situation too. I would be in such awe being in Rome and all over Europe and all my kids would think about would be getting back to the pool. I want to do the Med. for my 40th birthday in 3 years. Maybe I will just leave the kids on the ship then.

True Romance....we are also on the 2 night cruise in Jan! :thumbsup2
Very cool. Unfortunately for my kids, but fortunately for me it will just be my husband and I on this cruise. He has not sailed DCL and I think he will enjoy checking out the ship before our April cruise.

Cool, thanks for starting this group. I will go and join right now. I have a couple of friends on FB going on this cruise I will send the link to.

We have not booked our room yet, but I am thinking the Doubletree too. I believe there are a few other people on this board also considering the Doubletree. I will arrange a meet-up the night before when we get closer. Maybe I will book our room today, just to have it.

We are booked at that Doubletree in San Pedro too!! :cool1:

just joined FB:thumbsup2 Also I sent fried request to all that were added so far:goodvibes

I only had a second to pop in and read through the last few pages. I'll post my thoughts about the kids club when I have more time.

As for the night before our cuise we have to wait to book our airfare before we decide where were going to stay. I would like to fly into Long beach and then will stay that night out there and rent a car for the day and return it before our cruise leaves on sunday. If we fly into LAX we will take a town car to San pedro and stay at the doubletree or Crown plaza. However, I feel that we will just be trapped in san pedro at the hotel with no car and arriving a 1 pm can make for a long day with nothing to do;)

Just booked the Doubletree so count us in for a DIS Meet. We will probably go to Disneyland on Sat but we will head over when it is time for the meet! :thumbsup2

I am pretty sure that you can walk to the Ports O Call Village/Marketplace from the Crown Plaza. It's on the waterfront down from where the cruise ships dock. Don't forget they should have a pool too. Try this site for some visuals; http://www.sanpedro.com/

Brooklyn & Auntshell - both of you were on the 4-26 med cruise! Have you already met at a cruise meet on the last trip? If airfare isn't so expensive, we'd be heading back to the med instead of MR... absolutely loved our trip in May.

Michelle - I was on the Magic after the change in kids club and I honestly couldn't even tell the difference. Kids tend to still hang out within their age groups but then siblings didn't have to be split up. It seems like a win/win situation.

Website update - added roll call photo for Mariag418 and links to the Excursion page.

We're booked at the Doubletree too! And we're in for a meet on Saturday night :goodvibes

You're right, it's a really easy walk from the CP; we were down there last summer.

Alaska was amazing! We were on the Carnival Spirit. Nice ship, great staff, but I really missed Mickey :mickeyjum Weather was pretty cold (at least to us!) and overcast but it didn't really bother us. The glaciers were awesome (I didn't know glacier ice was blue!), scenery was incredible, and we saw lots of animals (whales, bears, eagles, to name a few). I think we'll go again one day, but probably a one way cruise with a land based tour after. There's so much to see and you barely scratch the surface with a cruise.

is LA the best airport for us to fly in to or is long beach better?
and How do you planning on get to the airport to the hotel??thanks.
Rae

So glad you had a good time. Great wildlife sightings! We did Alaska on our honeymoon 10 years ago, on Princess I think. We saw a bear and eagles, but never saw whales. Would love to do a land tour there sometime. RV'ing there in the summer is also a big thing, I think that would be fun.

Hi there, Long Beach is such a great little airport, no huge crowds, terminals and the like. It is small but efficient and close to both LA and OC (pretty much right in the middle). I hate having to fly through LAX but find it necessary on some trips, to avoid plane changes. Santa Ana/John Wayne is the other option, located in OC, but of course not as close to San Pedro and Long Bea

Thanks! This feedback is helping a lot and i'm feeling much better about the clubs :yay:
