Diez (10) Noches Calientes en la Riviera Mexicana/17 de abril 2011 (4.17.11 Wonder!)

5 weeks!!!!! YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

I am so excited that our cruise is getting so close, but now I'm also starting to get a little panicked about the FEs, especially since I hear everyone going great guns on them. I need to get my act together!

So along those lines: are any of you FEers pin traders? (Or alternatively, NOT a fan of pins?) (Can you guess where I'm going with this?) ;)

And for those of you who ARE pin traders, do you know if there's pin trading on the cruise? I heard they used to have it, then because of worries about the norovirus, stopped doing it, and now I don't know what the status is.

And by the way, those of you who have gotten your documents already, did you book directly with DCL? My TA hasn't made a peep about documents. :confused3 Has anyone with a TA gotten their docs?

I am a pin trader, will have a small limted book with me...we can trade! Usually any trading is set up by the folks who want to trade...if we have enough interest, I will take a list, and we can set a time once on board. I can ask guest relations if it can be put on the navigator (I doubt it, but one never knows!)

So - calling all pin traders!!!???!!!!

We have traded pins in the past, but it has been a long time(since 2004 when we did our last cruise). But we have a lot of older pins. We can bring them & see what anyone would be interested in trading.

Ok - yet another list!!!

I will start a list of folks who are intereted in pin trading while onboard. Please PM me if you are interested. Should I put a pin preference on the list?

Just ordered our pirate costumes! Guess we will be doing pirate night after all. :cool1: Had to get hubby's approval to spend the money - amazing how it can add up for 5 costumes! Here's hoping they all fit...

We always carry around a small bag of pins (about 20) for my DD to trade, when we are at DL Just for fun, mostly princesses.
Our Docs came last week, first time cruisers, so I don't think it has to do with what level you are at. They came to my TA, which is my neighbor, and she brought them right over.

Hi everyone, Ive been hanging around and finally have de-lurked. My husband and I are cruising with you all and I too am looking forward to Pirate Night. Our first cruise we missed it because that was our Palo night. Cant wait to set sail and see some sun!!

Welcome to the fun Sacdance! party:

Question for everyone (with kids) On formal night, when the kiddos are dressed so pretty and handsome, after dining do they change before heading off to play at the clubs or go all dressed up?

Last time we cruised, the kids were little enough that they didn't hit the clubs after dinner. Instead, it was bedtime (we had late seating). I'm guessing we'll just have to play it by ear this time around. At the least the kids (at least 2 of them) are old enough to check themselves in & out of the clubs themselves.

Yes I will on formal and semi-formal unless he chooses to eat with the club. I am so glad about the stateroom we were given since we travel to a different dining room every night. Most casual nights I won't or at least I don't plan too.

So after they eat in their fancy clothes, do they wear the fancy clothes over to the clubs or will they go back to the room for a quick change first?

I think last time we just took the kids with us to the Golden Mickeys on formal night. We have a great photo of us with Minnie in her golden clothes, and us in our formals. But I would guess if you were taking them to the clubs, I would change them (maybe even into PJs).

We've always changed them before going to the lab/club, since you never really know what kind of activities they'll be doing. They may be flopping around on the bean bags chairs, on the floor, or diving down the slide. However, if you have early/main seating and are planning on going to the show (Golden Mickeys) afterward, we just leave them dressed as there is another photo op (or even a live camera interview) just before you go into the show. As I understand it, if you have late seating (we've always done early), the club staff comes and picks up the kids (at your discretion, obviously) about 45 minutes into the meal so the parents can stay and enjoy a quiet meal alone. In that case, I guess they're going as they're dressed. Certainly all up to you.

As a side note for those unfamiliar, dry cleaning and ship's laundry are quite expensive onboard; however, they have self-serve laundromats for wash/dry ($1 each as of our last trip, and they sell soap too) that we use once or twice, as long as you're not averse to doing laundry while on vacation. It can get full though at peak times, but it allows us to keep the packing to a minimum (so if you see me wearing the same shirt twice...at least know I washed it!). :laundy: pirate:

another idea....don't use those tags at all. When you get to the port ask any porter for luggage tags and have the porter put the newest room number on the tags. The sorting system uses the barcode NOT the numbers (printed or written) on the tags. If for some reason the sorting system wasn't updated your baggage ends up at the wrong room. If you want to use those tags, cross out the barcoding as well as the old room number.

Unfortuntely the hand written tags are the last ones sorted, so the bags come last. Usually around dinner time. For upgrades done at the port after your bags are gone with the porter you will have to just wait it out..your room steward can help you find them. I would suggest taking a photo of your bags as well, this way there is no question about the color or shape of your bag...you can just show the photo to your steward!

Not sure if this is a help or not...I have done it both ways...never had an issue at all. I do know that searched bags are the very last to be released. If you have any long pieces of metal, expect a bag search...I have traveled with people who packed monopods (like a tripod but only one leg!) and every time the bags were searched...looks like a gun barrel on the XRays I guess. Another time a companion had a golf tool in her luggage - it was confiscated (I guess a 3" knife was unacceptable) and her bag wasn't delivered until the next day :scared1: . I have always packed a wine key without any issue.
Thanks for the info. DCL said not to cross out the barcodes (which was my first thought). So you think we should just ask the porters to put new tag tags on? I didn't know that they had them.

I'll drink to that. I got the boxed Sangria at Target today and it gets a :thumbsup2 Large box (4 bottles worth) on sale for $15.99. $4. per bottle!:woohoo:
YAY! What kind? Bota Box? YUM.

hmmm..interesting thought. I think I would be up for a 2nd one. Maybe towards the end of our cruise as a last horah.
Sounds good to me. Dh and I will definitely be doing at least 2 tastings onboard. Also, can you have a waiting list past the 50 people? Wondering because I see that the mixology is a front runner and that's not really something that we would be interested in.

Here is the list for those who ordered wrist bands. If you have paid and I don't show it here, please PM me. If you have not paid, or made other arrangements with me, you can paypal me at kh at kristhoward.com under the Personal tab for money owed. You can also pay me cash on the ship, just let me know.

Kristi, totally forgot to send you a message. We got ours last week and love them! Thanks again for doing this.:goodvibes

Ugh, please remind me why I am taking a lazy, disrespectful teen on a 10 night cruise. :headache:
Ah, because as mothers this is what we do for our lazy, disrespectful teens. Plus it is better than leaving them at home for 10 days and not knowing where they are and what they are doing.;)

And by the way, those of you who have gotten your documents already, did you book directly with DCL? My TA hasn't made a peep about documents. :confused3 Has anyone with a TA gotten their docs?
We booked directly through DCL and then later transferred to a TA. Docs came to us last week.

WElcome!

We would pay for two (or more) tastings!:goodvibes It would be so hard to settle for just one ;)
