Dietary restrictions and Concierge questions

Does anyone know if concierge will handle special dietary requests? My son (age 7) has celiac disease, and can't eat any foods with gluten (wheat). Since it sounds like so many of the breakfast foods are grain-based (breads and pastries), I worry he won't find anything to eat.

Also, a mostly unrelated question, but which resorts have concierge rooms which can sleep 5 (plus an under-three?) Are any of those two-room units, or would we have to get a real suite? And are all suites considered concierge in all resorts?

TIA

My son is a diabetic and stays concierge at the BW. We spoke with our planner and she made sure he had sugar free and lo carb muffins for breakfast. They also had special desserts for him in the evening. I would let your planner know the needs and they will take it from there.
The deluxe rooms at the BW sleep six. They have 2 queen beds and a queen sleep sofa. The rooms are a great size and perfect for what you want.
I always stay at the BW as does my son and his family.

I know nothing about the suites, etc, but I do know a little about the food issues.

We have multiple food allergies-milk, eggs, soy, nuts, fish/shellfish (and for a while had to eliminate wheat & rice), so I know how hard it is to anything to eat out in public.

The person that I spoke with late last year about our food concerns is:

Here's an article on Celiac at Disney- there are some helpful numbers in it also:

For us, we have to book sit down meals and speak with the chef to find out what is safe as well as what they can make for him. We will be there for his 5th birthday- I'm so excited- it will be his first time ever eating in a restaurant! :cheer2:

There are fresh fruits, most have yogurts (that might have wheat--read the label) and packets of oatmeal, as well as cereal, I want to think I've seen Rice Krispies. In the late afternoon there are cheses as well as some fresh fruit. Not sure what they can do for you for dessert, perhaps they can arrange for something made with rice flour. They will accomodate to a degree.

AKL, PR, GF, BWI, CR, BC, YC. Basically all but the WL. You cna get a 2 room, but that would be a suite. In all honesty, five plus a crib in any of those rooms would be REALLY cramped IMHO. Suites at teh WL are not concierge. Due to your sons situation, in your shoes I'd be renting points from a DVC member and getting a 2BR villa, TONS of room, TONS of amenities, just more likely a better choice for you.

We actually are already booked for our last week at the Wilderness Lodge Villas, but I wanted to try and try out different accomodations, since part of the purpose of our trip is to do research for our book. Since a lot of autistic children have dietary issues, it would be great to be able to report first hand on the concierge services.

At this point, I'm leaning towards 3-4 nights in a deluxe at the BWI, and then two savannah rooms (or a one-bedroom suite) at AKL for 3-4 nights, but still have a week open (which we now have booked at Ft. Wilderness for our camper, but we don't need to spend more than a night or two there (for research purposes as well.)

MBW - My DH has celiac disease, also. He eats the best ever at WDW! We stayed at the BC concierge a few yrs ago, and our TA notified the BC when she made our reservation, that he had celiac disease. They made special items just for him for breakfast every morning. He had wheat free/gluten free muffins, waffles, bread for toast, etc - he said they were by far the best he had ever had. They were generous with the portions, also - gave him 4 muffins each AM! He would bring the leftovers back to the room and eat them for a snack later. The food was brought to the concierge room every AM, on plates with his name on them - they would then tell him to bring anything leftover to his room to eat later. He felt so special - LOL!! If I remember correctly, we had to stop by the concierge desk each day to let them know approx what time we would be there for bfkst the following AM, and any requests he may have for what he wanted for the meal.

This was our experience on the DCL, also. Also, when you make your PS for the park or resort restaurants, mention the dietary restriction right away - you will then be given a phone number for the chef at each restaurant who you need to call a week or two before your trip. They were all so nice and easy to deal with by phone - and more than accommodating. I never felt once that we were causing an imposition with our request. When we ate at buffet style rest., such as H&V, Crystal Palace, etc, the chef would come to our table and personally escort DH thru the buffet line, explaining what he could and could not have. Some of the "could nots" were surprises - you never should just guess as to how something is prepared.

When they prepare something for a celiac person, they make sure it is with separate pans, etc, so there is no cross contamination.

So, rest assured - your son will not have any problems there, as long as you make sure WDW is aware of the need beforehand. I always also would remind our waitress of the request made, just to make sure.If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me.
