great reviews, i especially like the Chef Mickeys one :goodvibes
like you, id only really heard bad reviews recently. Its always been a favourite with us and we plan to go again on our next trip.
glad you had a good time.
cant wait to read more.x:)

Great format, i'm subscribing. Our family got back from 5 nights at BWV on July 2 on the DP. We had a great time but DW and I we're concerned because we were both on diets before the trip and didn't want to backslide. I had lost 43 pounds and Dw had lost 23 ( she had started her diet much after me ). although we were a little careful we ate everything we wanted including dessert at TS meals. Where we were cautious about what we ate was breakfast, except our Chef Mickey's breakfast on our DD12's birthday. All in all with the walking and heat we ended up not gaining any weight at all. Love the pictures of your food and your family is adorable. Looking forward to more reviews!

Glad to hear that you watched your diet ,somewhat ...but did not gain any weight back. I too ,started a diet with a nutritionist in June and do not want to give up all my pre-paid desserts....I guess with all the walking and some restraint I'll do just fine,also.:thumbsup2

Keep your Dining reveiws coming ...can't wait to see your #1 pick !

Thanks, you'll do fine what with all that walking :thumbsup2 Our approach was to go easy on breakfast and snacks, everything else was fair game especially desserts which are the star of the meal for me and DW :).

I think this is quite a unique way to write a review and I'm lovin' it! Can't wait to read more!

Yay! Hope you're having fun in Canada!

Waiting patiently for your return! :goodvibes

Hi everyone!! We got home from Canada about 2 hours ago!! No, I'm not addicted to these boards or anything! :lmao:

We had a lot of fun up in Canada (Ottawa, the capital). We saw tons of relatives in a 3-day period and we are exhausted but we had a lot of fun! Lots of laughs, strolls down memory lane, etc. The boys loved it, and it was DS3's first time traveling out of the country! They are SOOOOO tired though, and in bed sleeping already. But I must say, they handled things very well, considering they were going to bed much later than their normal bedtime and waking up early in the morning to get going again.

DH and I had wonderful vacations, but we are also very glad to be home. All that traveling in the car is very tiring (we left Ottawa at 7:00 this morning! :scared1:). But, it all was tons of fun and we all had a blast! In a couple of weeks we will be booking our Royal Caribbean cruise for next July, so I am excited about that! I am considering adding a countdown for the cruise into my signature, even though it is not Disney. I feel like I have to have some sort of a countdown, and our next WDW trip is over 700 days away so that would just be too depressing!

Anyway, I will continue my reviews, most likely starting tomorrow. Who knows...maybe I will get ambitious tonight. I am very tired though, but I have been known to get my second wind sometimes! ;)

I will tell all of you this much...my next review is from one of our breakfast ADRs...so you will finally get to see what I thought of one of the WDW breakfasts! :goodvibes Which one is it? You all will just have to wait and see! ;)

Arghhhh the suspense! :scared1: Subscribing to all these threads about WDW dining is so not going to help me watch my calorie intake!

I'm glad you had a good trip. :cutie: I've got relatives in Canada as well.

So glad you got home safe and sound! Glad to hear you had tons of fun on your trip!

Is it cheaper to book a cruise a year out or about a month before?? I've been looking at some Carnival Cruise's about a few weeks before the actual departure date(just looking at prices, not actually booking :sad2:), and it's really cheap!

Anyways, can't wait to hear your next installment! I'm pretty sure I know which breakfast it is, but I don't want to give it away, so I'll just wait until tomorrow! :lmao::thumbsup2

I know what you mean...I always look through Disney recipes, and there are very few that won't completely wreck Weight Watchers!!

Where in Canada are your relatives? We went to Ottawa, and I have also been to Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake, but I don't have family there. We are talking about driving up to Toronto and London to visit more relatives next August, after our cruise. And here DH and I thought we were taking a break from road trips next summer! :rotfl:

It is probably cheaper to book a cruise last-minute (a few weeks before, or even less sometimes), but I really never looked into that. We usually cruise with a lot of people (20 or so...and we're trying to get even more for next year!), so we have to book in advance to make sure there are enough cabins available for everyone. Plus, we travel during the summer which is peak season (even though it is hurricane season). So they book up quicker. My dad subscribes to some newsletter that sends him emails with last-minute cruise deals, things like, "Leave in 2 days and pay $_____." When we're retired, DH and I can do that on our own! Haha, we talk about retirement even though it is years down the road! But I plan on retiring at 55 and so does he, so 22 years to go! :lmao: That is when we will go to WDW in the off-season when it is cooler outside, and hopefully they will still have the Food & Wine Festival because it is during the school year. That's on our retirement list, along with a Fall Foliage cruise which is always in September and we are working.

Tomorrow will be my next installment...maybe I will get ambitious and write 2 or 3! Don't know...I have laundry, food shopping and other planning to do...my sister is getting married in a week from tomorrow!!!

Yup I get those quotes in my email..they're always sooo tempting too!

Ahh, retirement...sounds so nice, yet sooo far away!!! But Wow! 55 is awesome! Perfect age i'd say, since you'll still be in tip-top shape to do and go as your please! I'm not sure if I told you, but DH has what's called a Fall break, it's a month and a half or so before Thanksgiving break and it's one whole week off! AND it's during Food & Wine!!!! :woohoo: I've ALWAYS wanted to go to the F&W! We now have three different times of year to work with now instead of Summer and Winter!

She's getting married on a Wednesday?! That's awesome! Will you be in the ceremony!?

Wow, going during F&W is awesome! The only thing we have in October is Columbus Day, definitely not enough time to do a family vacation to WDW!

My sister is getting married on a Wednesday because she's getting married on a cruise ship in NYC and that is the day the ship is in port! So she will already be on her honeymoon! Yes, I am in the ceremony...I'm her matron of honor! I brought my dress in for alterations last week before we left for Canada (straps needed to be shortened). I pick that up tomorrow along with the boys' suits! Today on the drive home, we were going over the Verrazano Bridge (connects Staten Island to Brooklyn, both boroughs of NYC), and the ship she is getting married on had just sailed under the bridge! So that was the last sailing before her wedding! :) They were following us in their car, and I called her...of course she noticed it too!

Hi everyone! I got a good night's sleep last night after the long drive back from Canada, and I'm ready to post my next review! And coming in at #13 is......

CAPE MAY CAFE CHARACTER BREAKFAST!

This was one of 3 breakfasts we had in a Disney restaurant. The rest of our trip, we had breakfast in our villa. It was very relaxing that way and convenient having the kitchen and lots of space.

This breakfast was at 7:30am on July 23, 2010, our last morning of the trip. We woke up early, got all the luggage together after getting ready, woke the boys up and got them ready, then called down to Bell Services and they picked up our luggage to hold it for us until we came back and were ready to leave. It was very easy and relaxing. They came to our room within 5 minutes to get our luggage.

I was concerned, and a little nervous, about eating here. Remember in my first post how I said we had both a dinner and a breakfast scheduled at Cape May? Well...earlier in the trip, we walked over to the Beach Club Resort to go to our dinner at Cape May Cafe. Now, I knew they served shellfish here, and although DS5 has an allergy to shellfish, DH and I eat it in restaurants right next to him, and we have even gone to our favorite Japanese buffet near home that serves tons of shellfish, and he never had a problem as long as he did not eat it. Back in February, he tried shrimp sushi for the first time and broke out into hives and his face turned red, his eyes got a little swollen. I took him to the allergist and he tested him...sure enough, an allrgy to shellfish. I carry an Epi-Pen for him at all times, but thank goodness we have yet to use it.

Anyway, getting back to the night we had a dinner ADR at Cape May...the hostess brought us into the restaurant, and although I knew they served shellfish on the buffet, I did not know that they steam the crab legs right there. As soon as we passed by the buffet to go to the table, you could smell the crab legs. We got to the table and my son's face was red and he had a stuffy nose. His eyes got a little swollen. I told the hostess we had to get him out of there right away. The manager came over to us and was wonderful. She offered to make arrangements for us at another restaurant and she did just that. What was that restaurant? Well, that part you will have to wait and see when I get to that review! ;) Within a couple of minutes of leaving the restaurant my son was fine. It was still scary though. I was ready to use that Epi-Pen just in case, but thank goodness the reaction was not that bad and ended as soon as he was out of there. The manager also offered to call a medical unit but by then my son was fine. I thanked her and asked her if we should worry about the breakfast and she said no, they don't do anything with shellfish for the breakfast. Still, I was concerned going in, and fully prepared to go someplace else just in case.

When we got to Cape May for breakfast, the chef came over to talk to us about DS5's allergy. He sat down and was truly wonderful. He explained that my son should not use the crayons, because they were placed in a tiny bucket (like a beach pail), and that children use those in the evening at dinner also. There was a slight chance that there could be allergens on it because shellfish is served at dinner. So he didn't color, and he fully understood. The chef came back to check on him a couple of more times throughout the meal. He had also informed us that there could be allergens on the chairs from dinner the night before. This made me very nervous, and unsure if I would risk eating breakfast there again...probably not, just to be on the safe side. Thank goodness nothing happened to my son while we were there and he enjoyed himself. I wrote a letter to Disney when we got home, telling them how grateful I was for the manager on the night my son had a reaction, and also for the chef for being so concerned and for informing us of everything, and thanking them for taking good care of their guests with certain needs.

Getting back to my review...this breakfast was really good! If it wasn't for what happened when we tried to go to dinner there, I would say we would definitely be back! We enjoy going to a character breakfast right before hitting the road, to get one last taste of the Disney magic, but there are other resort character breakfasts and we will go to one of those next time. The food was delicious! Here is my first plate:

Clockwise from left: Mickey waffle, bacon, veggie omelette with ketchup on top (I put the ketchup...can't eat eggs without either ketchup or salsa on them!), breakfast potatoes, croissant (plain), and in the middle is syrup for the waffle. Well, I love Mickey waffles!!! These were delicious...crispy on the outside, soft and hot on the inside, yummy! The veggie omelette was delicious. I don't remember all the veggies in it but I do remember there was spinach in there and I LOVE spinach! There was also cheddar on top which was very nice! The potatoes were OK...I could take them or leave them. I didn't finish them. The croissant was delicious. Flaky and buttery! Here is my second plate:

DSCF3119.jpg

Pineapple, a cinnamon roll and a chocolate croissant!! Now, this place had some awesome sweets! DH said he loved that about this breakfast. The pineapple was sweet, juicy and delicious. Cinnamon roll was delicious too, as was the chocolate croissant. It was very chocolatey and oh so good! I also was in the mood for yogurt, so I made myself a yogurt concoction:

DSCF3126.jpg

I took vanilla honey yogurt and added apples, berries and granola. I didn't eat all of it but I had about half and it was very good! And of course, I had to get myself more sweets:

Clockwise from top right: Cape May Pan french toast, chocolate chip muffin, oat bran muffin, cheese danish. Yes, I ate almost all of it! The french toast was just OK, that is the one thing I did not finish. Too mushy for me, I like my french toast more crispy, and not so wet. The muffins were delicious as was the danish! Excellent baked goods at this place! And, DS5 wanted me to share a pic of what he had:

DSCF3120.jpg

Mickey waffles, scrambled eggs and bacon! No, he didn't eat it all, but Minnie Mouse helped him out and fed him a litle bit, and then he started eating! :goodvibes

Character interaction was great here. They have Minnie, Goofy and Donald, all in beach attire. I had put DS5's pre-K graduation on every ADR that was just the 4 of us, and the server came out with a chocolate cupcake with a candle in it and asked Donald Duck to help him celebrate his graduation. My son was so happy, his face lit up! He also got a greeting card signed by all 3 characters from there! It was a fantastic ending to our trip!

All in all, we enjoyed this breakfast, but as I said, I don't think we will return only because of my son's allergy and the risk of cross-contamination. He was fine there, but I was still nervous the whole time. It's a shame too because we enjoyed this meal. It was also very relaxing, even though it was a character breakfast! I think that having just 3 characters made it more relaxing. I would highly recommend it!!

Hi there! :wave2: New here and just jumping in on your review! Loving it so far! Very helpful and informative!

Our trip is in 6 months! Can't wait :woohoo:

Great update - worth waiting for - although I nearly missed it as your title still says #14

That Cape May breakfast looks really good, even the granola ;) I could really use a Disney World buffet breakfast about now (even thought it's tea time).
