Day 2: Breakfast with the Donald

We always love to do character breakfasts while at Disney, well okay, I love to do character breakfasts and DF indulges me. I think he does find it funny how I get like a little kid and am so excited for the characters. I mean, I know they are just people in costumes, but when I see them, it's like they really are the real thing! :cutie:

We had a 10:20 am reservation, we checked in a few minutes before. They gave us a pager and there were a bunch of people waiting so I thought we might have to wait for a while, but our pager went off two minutes later. They led us to the photo-op area and took our pics and then we were led to our table. Our server came over and took our drink order (we had the Jungle Juice) and explained how the characters would circulate. We were in the center room. I liked the variety of stuff they had on the buffet, I think anyone would be able to find something they enjoyed. Here's an example of what they had:

The Mickey waffles were the best part, they were so fresh! Really outstanding. Somehow I missed the syrup and accidentally put honey on them before I figured out it wasn't the syrup. Still tasted delicious. I really liked the mealy pap, reminded me of grits which you don't get much in the North. The breakfast potatoes were good and hash browns are always tasty. The sausage patty was a little greasy but still good. I didn't care for the quiche, it was okay, but there were more delicious Mickey waffles to be had so I didn't want to fill up on the mediocre! I don't remember the other thing on the plate, I don't think I liked it. DF had some eggs, potatoes, Mickey waffles, bacon and sausage. I didn't take pictures of his food. I also tried some of the orange banana bread, pretty good but no Boma Banana bread and biscuits with sausage gravy, also very tasty!

We went back for seconds of Mickey Waffles! These are my favorite, I had them for the first time last year and became obsessed with them. I went to DTD to buy the waffle maker and almost had a meltdown when the lady told me they were discontinued :sad1:. Okay, I did have a meltdown, right in World of Disney :confused3. I was crying and refusing to even look at anything else...not my proudest moment :sad2:. When I got home I wrote to Disney to ask if they would sell me a commercial one :rotfl2:, what can I say I love those waffles! They said no, but in a nicer form letter sort of way. All my coworkers thought I was nuts! I did find one on ebay, paid a ridiculous amount for it, it's the Villaware that makes 4 mini waffles, but they aren't the same, they're much thinner than the ones at Disney. Still good for at home, and sometimes I make Mickey pancakes since I have the pancake molds and this trip I bought the egg molds. Food just tastes better in a Mickey shape! :goodvibes

Back to Tusker House, see what happens when you get me started on the waffles! So then of course there are the characters! :goodvibesFor some reason when our server was first explaining it I thought that the characters were on their last round and started to panic. But then I realized they were still seating a bunch of people for breakfast, and there would be a riot if the characters didn't come around, so that was pretty silly of me. :rolleyes1 DF didn't get that impression at all, so I guess I just wasn't really listening.

First up was Mickey:

Then the Donald:

They had the parade and handed out musical instruments for the kids, it was really cute. I thought it was really funny how Mickey was shaking his little butt on the dance line! :lmao:

Goofy was next, but I don't like that pic :rotfl:

We did have to wait awhile for Daisy, she was taking forever! But she finally got to our table:

The handler came by to make sure we saw everyone. At some point the photopass guy came by to show us the pics, they did turn out really well, but I didn't want to pay $30 for some pictures of us in front of some plates, so we passed. I think you should be able to add these onto the photopass CD's without buying the package, since I can't imagine that many people buy the package and what do they do with it afterwards anyway?

Overall a great time here. We loved it and it's probably our favorite character breakfast. The food was really good and a great variety of stuff. Good character interaction, they posed with each of us without us having to ask, seemed to really interact with the families around us which was cute to watch and I love the safari outfits! We would definitely go back to this one!

Congratulations on your engagement! Great reviews so far. Can't wait to read more. We love Tusker House and Mickey Waffles too.

Congratulations, you are a cute couple and how very romantic of your fiance. :lovestruc

I am enjoying your reviews and look forward to more. :goodvibes

Dessert:

They cleared all our dishes away and I was thinking about whether I should have the cream cheese buckle or something a little lighter when our server comes out with a domed plate and says that my prince has ordered me a special dessert. Well it wasn't a dessert at all but a beautiful glass slipper on a bed of rose petals and inside the slipper is an engagement ring on a rosebud :lovestruc. It looked a little like this but better:

You'll have to settle for my recreation since I don't have the photopass pics of everything yet. So DBF asked me to marry him and I said yes. Everyone clapped for us. Then they brought out some champagne flutes and the photopass photographer took a ton of pics. I guess it wasn't really champagne since they don't serve liquor in the MK, but I didn't notice at the time. It was really sweet and romantic.:cloud9:

WOW- How awesome! Congrats to both of you!:lovestruc

ohhhhh! congrats! :) and so far your reviews are awesome...that lamb looks fabulous from crt and I can't wait to try tusker house when we go. I love the characters in their safari gear.

and I hear you on the expensive weddings up here in ny/nj. I'm far from getting married but my good friend had a disney wedding last summer (she's from LI too) and she said that the wedding was almost the same price as up in LI. Maybe a little cheaper actually. :)

Can't wait to read more!

Day 2: Dinner at the Yachtsman and the Greatest Server ever!

That breakfast really filled us up, we had reservations at the Yachtsman for later that night so I stopped by Gasparilla Grill at the GF for a snack. I always thought the negative reports about this place couldn't be right. I mean, I know Deluxes don't have as many CS options as the Moderates or Values, but we've always found there to be a decent selection and Roaring Forks and the Mara. Well everyone is right. This place is so small! I was really in the mood for a cupcake too since I hadn't had one of those in months. There were no cupcakes! So I got a apple crumb cake for me, a bag of doritos for DF, and I picked up our refillable mugs. I wanted to get some diet cokes but the soda machine was all messed up and was splattering really concentrated syrup all over me when I tried to fill it. I settled for iced tea and got a light lemonade for DF. The crumb cake was actually really good, it had a nice crumbly topping and the cake was so soft. There was a layer of apple pie filling in the middle. No cupcake, but still pretty darn tasty! They seriously need to do something better for CS, one day I went over to Captain Cooks and felt like I was in Snack Paradise!

We were a little late getting to the Yachtsman, I think they made us wait a few minutes as punishment! DF wants to have a room just like this one day!

There was some confusion about our table, at first they took us to a large round table for 6...hmm that doesn't seem quite right. The hostess told her the wrong table, but we did end up seated at a table for 4 which was nice because our plates weren't all crowded on the table!

Now if you're going to eat at the Yachtsman, and I do recommend it, you absolutely MUST do yourself a favor and request Ricardo! He was the most awesome server ever, by the end it was like he was our best friend! We loved him, he was so sweet and funny. DF wanted to get a picture of him, but thought it might be weird if we asked. I wish it was like a cruise where your server just follows you to all the different restaurants. What makes him so awesome? Everything! He is the cutest little man, he seemed genuinely delighted to be there. Every request was met with "My pleasure!" but like it really was! Not like he was just saying it. We spent a good 30 minutes or so just talking with him after we finished our meal.

Okay, now onto the food!

I had an iced tea, the presentation was so cute I had to take a picture of it! The small plate had lemons, sweetener packets and the little carafe had a simple syrup in it so you could make Sweet Tea!
IMG_0212.jpg

The bread is also really good here, there were sourdough rolls and pull apart onion rolls. The onion rolls were fabulous, Ricardo brought us seconds of those -- we didn't ask specifically, he just guessed those were our favorites because there was still a sourdough in there.

DF started with the Caesar, he loves caesar salad and said this one was particularly good.
IMG_0213.jpg

I had the cheese plate. Allearsnet has the cheeses listed as: Saint Andre, Beemster X0, Robiola, and Fourme. I really liked all of them, but my favorites were the ones in the middle!

IMG_0214.jpg

We both had the New York Strip Steak - 12 oz. Strip Steak with Peppercorn Brandy Sauce and Potato Gratin with Diamond White Cheddar, Ricardo had recommended it and it really was fabulous. We both usually get filet and this was just as tender, the sauce was so good sometimes that type of sauce is hit or miss. This one was great! The potatoes were also so good and cheesy. Yum!
IMG_0215.jpg

We were really hungry when we ordered so we also got a side of the Truffled Mac and Cheese. This was pretty good, but not as good as the potatoes and we really were too full to eat much of it.

IMG_0216.jpg

But of course we had to have room for dessert! Now DF is not a huge dessert person, and generally doesn't order any for himself. Since we were on the DxDP and it was included it seemed like a waste not to get it. So that meant I sometimes got to pick two desserts! But we would always pretend that he was the one that was going to eat it so no one knew what a little piggy I was! :rotfl:

Ricardo recommended two dessert the creme brulee and the valharona chocolate trio, so we got those! On our past two trips I wasn't wowed with my desserts and Ricardo had never steered us wrong before.

IMG_0218.jpg

Both were really good. I liked the creme brulee better, while I love chocolate, I'm not a huge fan of super-chocolatey things. The trio was also really rich, and the creme brulee was so light, so it was better after a huge meal.

This was our 3rd time at the Yachtsman and it's definitely on the list for future trips, and next time we'll have to call ahead and find out what days Ricardo is working!

Congratulations on your engagment. I'm such a romantic at heart I've just teared up reading about it. You are a lucky girl.

Thanks for the DSB review. We are trying it our next trip and I am so encouraged by the positive reviews.

Looking forward to more.

DH and I went to the Yachtsman Steakhouse in January and loved it too. Especially the cheese plate and the creme brulee, yum!!
