Didn't get our DME tags

There was a mix-up (probably due to the recent website glitches) with our Disney Magic Express tags, and they will not be arriving to our house before we leave on our vacation. We leave next Tues, the 16th.

I have been told that we can give our baggage claim tickets to the CM at the DME check-in, and that doing that will make sure our luggage still gets where it needs to go. But to be honest I am pretty nervous about doing that. I feel like there's a much higher chance that there could be a mistake and our luggage wouldn't get to us, which would be terrible. Does anyone have any experience with doing it this way?

My husband and I are now considering doing a Minnie Van from the airport, or just doing an Uber with car-seat (we have a 2.5-year-old, plus 3 older children). This wasn't what we had envisioned doing, though, and I feel disappointed about it.

Any thoughts on our situation would be very appreciated.

1. They know what they’re doing. They do it all day long. You can give the. Your baggage claim ticket and they’ll get the job done without any issues 99% of the time.

2. If you’re worried, you can simply collect your own bags and still ride DME. Getting your own bags doesn’t relegate you to some other form of transportation.

My best advice? Roll with the punches. Being disappointed about it is just going to get you into a funk to start your trip. It sounds like it's already affecting you, before you've even left. It can be hard when things don't go according to plan, but in the grand scheme of things that can go wrong, this is SUPER minor.

You can give them your claim tickets, or grab your bags yourself. No need to spend $$ on a Minnie Van or Uber. Just head for the DME bus after either giving them your ticket or grabbing your own bags.

It'll be OK! :)

Been there, done that. Everything went fine, although I was also concerned beforehand. We had planned to drive, but a few days beforehand, a family illness meant I flew alone, so no luggage tags. All I had to do was be very careful that when they gave me my luggage tags at check in on my airline, I kept them accessible so that when I got to the DME counter, I could give them the luggage tags. And my luggage arrived in my room just as I'd hoped. The only difference was that later, bell services called me to double-check that I wasn't expecting another suitcase also.

I've had a few trips w/o my MDE tickets; no biggie. They read my magic band instead I think. Or maybe they looked at an email I had on my cellphone from Disney.
Nothing to worry about.

You'll be fine with them collecting as others have said. Just take a picture of your luggage tag info just in case. I do this all the time in case my luggage goes amiss. So take DME and enjoy. As a PP said if you are really worried, collect your bags and bring them on DME.

It depends on your anxiety level. Many have given the DME CM their luggage receipts, with a description of the bags, and had very good success. The CMs go to baggage claim, usually the not claimed baggage office, and get the bags, and they then go to the luggage trucks for resort delivery. My biggest issue with doing it this way is that your bags are out there, going around and around, on the public carousel. An airline employee then grabs all 'unclaimed' bags and takes them to an office, which is where the Disney luggage people get the bags.
I would be more comfortable just getting my own bags at baggage claim and taking them to the bus with me. Then, the bags are with you, when you get to the resort, especially nice if your room is ready!

For the record, OP is talking about the yellow luggage tags for checked bags.

This is good to know since I've switched from room only to dining plan (new Ressie). We are flying Southwest but will probably just carry on. I'm a business traveler and I never check a bag and I travel up to 5 days at a clip. I am the master of the capsule wardrobe ::yes::

Oops. I never check my luggage unless JetBlue asks for volunteers at which point it's free and I know it's being put on the right plane. We just take it off the carousel our selves, go over to MDE and they place it in the "belly of the bus". Since I frequently neglect to bring my MDE info (I generally don't even open the envelope) I have to provide proof that I and my luggage are allowed on the bus.

Same here but I can pack for a few more days if need be. It's all in the acessories and for leisure travel it's even simpler-bring on the tee shirt dresses and leggings!:cool2:

It's all in the quart bag. I bought one from Amazon and it holds at least 2x as much as a zip loc.

Also, compression packs from Eagle Creek hold a lot, and have saved me room in my luggage many times.

You can just stop at baggage claim and pick up all of your luggage yourself and take it to the Magical Express bus. It will be loaded under the bus you ride to your resort in. You collect it when you get off the ME bus and bell services can help you with it. If your room isn’t ready they will store it for you until you have checked in. Simply call bell services when you get to your room to have it delivered.

I learned how to pack "small" years ago from a 70's edition of Europe on $15 (or maybe 20) a Day by Frommer. He had a chapter on luggage packing written by a then well known model that was informative for the times. Over the decades I've adapted it to where I am now. I enjoy reading about the updated versions that use compression bags and quart bags:).
