Did your state offices close today out of respect for the former President Reagan?

Ours did (New York State - per Governor Pataki's orders) and some of the individuals who were interviewed on the news last night were none too happy about it - especially when they learned how many millions of dollars would be lost by the closing of these offices..

Considering that NY is always crying about $$, I have to wonder if this was the wisest thing to do..

Also, the Governor said that state workers were being given the day off specifically to spend the day honoring the late President and to pay their respects..

How many state workers do you think actually spent the day in that manner?

Few to none would be my guess. My husband got the day off thanks to Pataki, but he had booked it as a vacation day weeks ago because we had to be in Albany last night.

Ours were closed as well. I was thinking the same thing C.ANN. That's what Nevada said as well, the day off for honoring and as a sign of respect for the late President. I bet when it was anounced, there were a lot of people happy. Seems like a waste of taxpayer money to me. By the way, I was off today, and not because they told me to take the day off, I had to use a vacation day. I did watch a little of the funeral this morning.

Ours did not and I admit I was surprised. First, because I'm in Maryland (so close to DC after all) and second because our governor is a Republican who admired Reagan. The state has been operating in the red however for the last 3-4 yrs and has had hiring freezes in place since so I suppose it was the best decision from a financial point of view. The banks here were open as well.

state and town offices in MA were open
we had a few people call to see if we were open before they came though

The railroad gave all its non-essential employees off for the day. If you are an essential employee you had to work but were given one extra personal day to take whenever you wanted from now until Dec. I already had a personal day for that day for my daughters graduation so I got nothing.

my understanding from gov douglas here in vt, was that it would cost the state 1.75 MILLION dollars to close for the day....being that he's trying to be fiscally responsible etc.... our state offices are open

I don't think ours were closed...I know the courts were open and the news last night showed a piece about the legislature so looks like they were working (or should I say "working" ) too.
