DH and I are taking DS7 to WDW next month and we're trying to test out new places we haven't tried before. I get the feel of this place, although DH and I have never tried it, and I'm just wondering what the kids think about being picked on for not eating their veggies (although at our table, I'd be the one picked on for that!!!). Do the kids "get it" at this place? Do they like the atmosphere? Food sounds great, so I'd like to give it a try. I'm just curious what other kids think of this place. Thanks!!!!

DS has always loved 50's. We have been going since he was 5. He did eat his veggies though.

You know your kid. If he will get the joke, he'll probably have fun. But the place doesn't seem to be recommended for sensitive children (or adults). If you want to skip the antics and just eat, sit at the bar in the lounge (kids can sit there too) and order your food.

Our experience (visiting several times with kids ranging from 2-18) was that the servers are pretty good about picking up who is enjoying the fun and who isn't. We really have never had a problem with anyone getting upset, though we did always talk to them about the schtick beforehand. :)

Took my then 9 year old son and then 6 year old daughter in 2009. They liked the atmosphere. My son was not too pleased with the kids menu's choices (he was on the kids dining plan). The servings seemed small and myself and husband were not very impressed. I do not think we will go again. The peanut butter milkshake was good. Thats all that stuck out for me.

This is a family favorite for sure. I have never had anything but the pot roast which I actually enjoy. The family has other things and never had any real complaints. It is typical diner food. My kids are 14 and 17 and they have loved this place since they were very young and now prefer it over sci-fi. It really depends on your server for how much of the "antics" you get. Some really play it up and other just do the bare minimum. The place is really fun on the inside and we enjoy the atmosphere. Agree that "sensitive" people may not like it as much. I give it a thumbs up for fun and 50's ambience. :thumbsup2

My kids love it and it is one of the few places that we ALWAYS have to go to when we visit WDW. Now, we are a big jokester family, so they love it when someone else jokes around with them. They also love the menu items, so we always have a great time (unless we end up with a dud waitress/waiter--that happened once :( ).

I'm 25 and I enjoyed the experience! Our waitress was wonderful! I got scolded a few times for having my elbows on the table, and I did not finish my veggies, but I also wasn't forced to finish them either. The food was delicious down home cookin'! I did see another table getting force fed by a 'choo-choo-train.' And we did get a birthday cupcake to share. I'd say take your kids, it's all in good fun and it's a good laugh! We have an ADR for this year again!

My kids had fun last year.. the only thing that my son was upset about was he couldnt get a malt with his meal.. but no big deal.. I gave him mine!! we were on the deluxe dining plan and there was way tooo much food! :)

our waitress was fun, and my son picked up on her sense of humor right away.

My kids (12 and 8) LOVE Prime Time! DD8 is not the type who would appreciate being picked on, and she rarely finishes her meal, but they haven't picked on her in our two visits there. Our servers tended to pick on the adults, which the kids find hilarious. ;) I'm not sure if they don't pick on kids, or if our servers picked up that she wouldn't really enjoy that. DD12 got teased a little last time - I told her she was now fair game since she is ordering from the adult menu.

DD8 especially enjoyed watching the guy at the table next to us get in trouble!

Our Kids and Grandkids all love Prime Time; so do we "old folks". Last time we were there our waitress zoomed in on Grandpop who is NOT a veggie eater... The Grands, especially enjoyed hearing "Aunt Alice" tell him he couldn't order dessert unless he finished his green beans.

Fortunately, every time we've been, we've had a really fun waiter/waitress who made our visit enjoyable.

The food is really good; not gourmet, but filling and tasty. I like their sampler plate.

Our waitress did not pick on any of my kids, she picked one me :rotfl2: Maybe because they were little (dd had just turned 3 and DS was 5). I think everyone enjoyed it. Food was OK, it was a little heavy for lunch.

ITA....we have been there countless times and have never had a problem (well, once my tattling on my son backfired and I got picked on!!)

Our boys have always had fun, one time our son (he was 8 or 9 at the time) got caught hiding his veggies and had to sing "I'm a little tea pot" with our waitress. Another time both boys were told they had to write a message to our server with the green beans they refused to eat. One wrote "NASTY" when the server saw that she broke into song- singing Janet Jackson's "Nasty" 'Nasty Beans' and my older son (the same one who tried to hide the veggies) wrote "NO TIP" she LOVED that! Some of the servers really get into it and some not so much. Overall it is a good time, and the food, though basic, is pretty good.

Yep same experience here. The waitresses tended to pick on adults. The kids loved doing the "shame, shame, shame" to a grown up. They thought it was an absolute riot and have already demanded that we go back this time.

It is great fun, imo.

Our recent experiences at 50's with our three boys (ages pre-school to pre-teen) have been mixed. Last summer, we all enjoyed it. Our server was great - he quickly detected those among us who were up for the antics and those who were not. He broke character once with my husband and that was one of the funniest moments of the entire meal. In short, good food and great experience.

We returned in February of this year and it was quite the opposite. Our server was borderline mean to our pre-teen who ordered from the children's menu - repeatedly told our son would never have a girlfriend ordering from the kids' menu because he was acting like a baby. Not funny to our pre-teen. Our pre-schooler has a speech delay (something we don't usually need to mention to CMs) and our server repeatedly barked at him to "talk so I can understand you." When I intervened to advise our server of the situation, he ignored me and continued with the act, saying that he was going to take care of this. Again, not good.

I get the "eat your veggies" thing and our server last year did a great job of badgering the adults last year - really fun! But when our server in February started berating our pre-schooler who was clearly upset, it wasn't fun anymore. I really don't think our negative experience is the norm - I think our positive experience is - but it's enough to prevent us from returning for a while.

My family and I love the Prime Time. I was picked on because I ate my veggies and I am part of the clean plate club. However, my family members have been picked on too:

Since my grandma, Baba, came late to the table, it was made clear that our waitress does not approve lateness, and as punishment she would have to pay the bill.

Mom ordered the fried chicken. She tried the collard greens, but didn’t like them. She was worried that if she didn’t eat her veggies, she wouldn’t get dessert. So, she took the bones from her chicken and shoved the greens under them, so it looked like she ate them.

Our waitress came to pick up the dishes, and when she came over to Mom’s, she said, “I wasn’t born yesterday!” She then knocked over the bones, revealing the collard greens.

She picked up a forkful, and said, “Everybody make airplane noises!”

We did, and our waitress, waved the fork around and around, forced Mom to open her mouth, and then plopped it in her mouth.

My kids had heard all about it from their cousins and my oldest son (9) was a little nervous after hearing that my niece had to clear the dishes off of the table for something she did in front of their server. We were all laughing at him when we went because his manners that night were impeccable. He was constantly saying "yes, ma'am" or "no, thank you". Never once had his elbows on the table, cleaned his plate, and was sitting stick straight in his chair. The server even commented to one of my other sons that he should sit up, like his brother does. He was so proud of himself that he didn't get in "trouble" from her!

We've eaten here 7 or 8 times and have NEVER had a server tease us or anything, kids or the adults. not sure why? we're not a bunch of grumps, are there to have fun!
and my girls have even tried sitting with elbows blatantly on table, anything they can try to get corrected by our server... nope, nada!
still, we enjoy dining there though!
