No way. My youngest has always had a vivd imagination. I never needed to create things for him to worry about.

My parents never told me anything like that, but then again, I had an older brother, so they really had no need to!!!

He took care of it for them. ;)

I would agree that I think it's a bit odd that a parent would intentionally scare their child.

What kind of a warped person intentionally creates imaginary monsters to scare little kids?!?!!? Sick. :sad2:

As a mom, I want to comfort and protect my babies, not scar them emotionally and make bedtime a terrifying experience. There are enough real monsters and bad things going on in the outside world as it is; the last thing I need to do is to add one more in our own home.

I had a babysitter who told me there was a skeleton in the basement and that was bad enough.
I also now have that song in my head, thanks. "I'm your boogie man, that's what I am....."

what about that thing that lived under the couch? -eek-

Blame your uncle for that one. It was a boogaloo. You and he swore it was a gnome type thing. You weren't afraid of it when you were little. :thumbsup2

No boogie man here either. But, in preschool, the teachers told all the kids that if they picked their noses that a sharp toothed snail was up there and would bite their fingers. Does that count?

My father was one of those who thought it funny to scare us kids with the boogieman  :sad2: I never did that to my children, thought it to be sick and cruel. :furious:

Nope, my kids have absolutely no idea who The Boogie Man is. DS4 does know about ghosts and monsters and skeletons. In fact, the book we got DS about the anatomy of the human body has to be stored in mine and DH's room because DS doesn't like having the "bone book" in his room at night. And DS has occasionally woken up complaining of "monsters outside". When I do this, I assure him that there are no monsters outside -- just deer and coyotes and squirrels.
