Did you spend extra because of Hurricane Sandy?

Actually, I think it cost me less. I used up all the meat out of my freezer (except one chicken) in the days before the storm and we had canned stuff yesterday because I wasn't sure when we were going to lose power. So my grocery bill was rather miniscule last week. We did buy extra water bottles (currently frozen in my otherwise empty freezer). Everything else we had on hand.

Since we live in Florida, I restock our hurricane supplies twice a year, when I change the clocks (and check the smoke detector) Since we've been pretty lucky (we haven't lost power in over seven years) it's mostly been rotating the supplies for the last couple of years. It's nice to know that box is in there. We keep a stash of batteries in our freezer.

I guess if you live in a part of the country where you wouldn't have to worry about it, I could see not having an emergency supply kit, but it wouldn't hurt to keep a few supplies on hand. We are saving up to buy a generator, and hope to have one purchased before next hurricane season. I think the most expensive thing we've ever purchased because of a storm was a chainsaw ... :headache:
