Did you see Harry Potter? What did you think? SPOILERS inside!!

Loved, loved, loved it!!!

We were upset about the Dudley scene. We think they should have gone over that.

I watched part 6 today and they really have to do a major flashback for TDH pt. 2 so you can see how Dumbledore gets buried with Draco's wand. It was a quick scene when Harry grabbed Draco's wand (the elder wand) so they really need to tie that in nicely in the next one.

I loved how they did the story of the 3 brothers!!

I heard a little boy sobbing when Dobby died:sad1:! It was so sad!! My son held his hand over his mouth like he couldn't believe it.

The ghost's stories need to be told!

I want to go see it in Imax this week by myself (I can't justify spending $15 per child and $18 for DH and I). The kids were fine seeing it for $5 at the local matinee!

One thing I did not like was all the jumpy camera movements. At times the filming seemed amateurish, someone walking with a camera on their shoulder vs on the devices for the smooth movements (whatever they are called).

Dh and I saw it this morning and we both loved it. I didn't think I would be as emotional as I was when Dobby died, but it really got to me. We thought overall they did a good job following the major plot lines in the book so far. We really can't wait for July to get here.

Can someone help me out here? I'm trying to remember what happened with the wand.

I know that it was Dunmledore's, and I know it has an allegiance to Draco since he disarmed Dumbledore, right?

What happened to the wand after Dumbledore died? I can't remember from reading the book, which I've lent to a friend, so I can't look it up. And online I've read a couple of different things, so I don't know which to believe.

TIA!

You have to win the elder wand in battle. When Draco disarmed Dumbledore, he got his wand. Then Harry took the wand from Draco before they disapparated with Dobby.

Dumbledore is master of the Elder wand after defeating Grindlewald (sp?). When Draco disarmed Dumbledore in HBP he became the master of the wand. Harry's wand is broken during the fight at Malfoy manner and disarms Draco of his and thus making Harry the master of the Elder wand (even though the Draco doesn't have it, the wand knows).

I haven't seen the movie yet and am so excited (and sad) to see it!

Watched it again today, and you can definitely see Bellatrix using her wand to carve "mudblood" into Hermione's arm on the first shot. Then they cut to a different angle, and it looks as though she's biting her instead.

Just got back from seeing it this afternoon and wow! Just wow! I absolutely loved this one, it's my favorite HP movie now. They did a phenomenal job with it, the whole movie flowed and stayed pretty darn true to the book. I was surprised by how emotional I got when Hermione used the obliviate spell on her parents. And also when Dobby died. I actually was teary-eyed for that little house elf.

Loved loved loved Ron and Hermione together. They have such wonderful chemistry and it rang very true, just like the book IMO. Also I so enjoyed the 3 brothers tale from Beedle the Bard. Smart move to illustrate it rather than just have Hermione read it aloud.

All in all, it was exceptionally done and I enjoyed every little minute of it. The time flew by like it was 45 minutes, not 2 1/2 hours. The cast was amazing and they set it up perfectly for the second half of Deathly Hallows. Can't wait till the summer!

DS9 and I saw it at the midnight show Friday, and loved it! I really expected him to be asleep before the wedding was even over, but he was wide awake for the whole movie. It really just flew by!

He was very upset about Dobby, even though he knew it was coming. He didn't cry, but told me on the way home that it ruined the whole movie. By Friday afternoon, he had changed his mind and decided we needed to see it again. :rotfl:

I also wish they had put in the scene with Dudley, but overall, they did a great job. :thumbsup2

My wife noted that that was the entirety of his contribution to the film.

At least he got a scene. Neville isn't in the whole first half of the book as it is. He rocks in the next movie though. They've got no choice about it:banana:

As for myself. I made it through the midnight premiere Fri. night with my sister and a friend. Didn't expect to be awake enough to go after working and a 4 hour drive up to my parents' , but i was. And it was good. I enjoyed it and will definitely be seeing it again cause I know i missed stuff in the movie.

Other than glossing over Bill and Fleur I am happy with the movie, though somewhat disappointed about Kreacher's story. I completely agree with the animation for the tale, it was just right. My Dh still has to see it because he was too tired to go, but we'll probably wait until it comes to the Cafe Cinema which will be a couple of months down the road. Dinner and a movie night there.

I went to the midnight premiere with my two college-age daughters. They've have truly grown up with the books and we've made a tradition out of seeing the movies together.

I loved the movie - I thought it followed the book as well as you can expect of any film adaption.....there will always be minor differences and omissions. Some if it is just the difference in telling the story with the written art as opposed to telling it with a visual art - and some is artistic license of the director. I don't compare the two experiences, but the Potter film series is so well cast, the line between my reading experience and my viewing experience is blurred. Happily so - they truly brought the characters to life.

I plan to see the movie again - and to re-read all the books - before the last movie comes out.

Just came back from seeing the movie. Excellent! It's been a long time since I've read the books, so in a way, that was good as I didn't have any expectations. Loved the scene with Hermoine and her parents. I thought the actors have really grown up in their acting ability. Kudos to the animation scene...very Tim Burton in a way. Also liked the jerky, hand-held camera, scary-type filming that they used occasionally. And the often used dead silence. Very intense.

On the other hand the first thing I did notice was how thin Emma Watson was. Too thin.

July can't come too soon. Yet, I'm sad that the film series is coming to an end.

Refresh my memory....what wand was it buried with Dumbledore??

The Elder Wand.

Saw the movie today and LOVED it :thumbsup2 I've gotten so used to them leaving stuff out & changing things that it really didn't bother me much this time around. In fact, I feel like this one stayed the most faithful to the books than any of the others! And man, that 2 1/2 hours went by really quickly! My boyfriend, who has never read the books, said that this one was his favorite film so far & that even though he was a little confused at some parts he felt like it flowed really well and that he couldn't believe 2 1/2 hours had gone by so fast :)

The Elder Wand.

)

MMmmm...no? The elder wand belonged to Dumbledore who lost it to Draco when Draco disarmed him. Then Harry takes Draco's wand (the elder wand) at Malfoy Manor.

So what wand was buried with Dumbledore?? A fake?? Or did Draco not take Dumbledore's wand with him when they left the astronomy tower...and then the elder wand was buried with Dumbledore??

So how would Harry disarming Draco of Draco's ordinary run of the mill non-elder wand make Harry "master" of the elder wand???

You have to win the elder wand in battle. When Draco disarmed Dumbledore, he got his wand. Then Harry took the wand from Draco before they disapparated with Dobby.

May want to double check, but Draco never took possession of the Elder Wand as it went over the side before Dumbledore. Albus was buried with the wand. The wands Harry took before Dobby died were the wands from everyone else at Malfoy's, including Bellatrix's.

You are probably right, but HOW does taking Draco's boring "normal" wand, make Harry suddenly master of the Elder wand? Wouldn't he have to disarm the master of the elder wand while the master was using the elder wand?

This part always confused me in the book. Methinks I found a minor plot hole. Or at least a poorly planned one.

The Elder Wand was buried with Dumbledore. Draco was the master of the Elder Wand because he disarmed Dumbledore on the Astronomy Tower, but he never actually got the wand. The wand he had in Deathly Hallows was his own wand.

Voldemort thought Snape was now the master of the Elder Wand because he was the one who killed Dumbledore, but he never knew that Dumbledore had asked Snape to kill him. So Snape never actually became the master of the Elder Wand, it was still Draco.

Voldemort killed Snape thinking it would make him the wand's master, but at that point Harry was the true master of the wand because had defeated Draco at Malfoy Manor. Harry had left there with Draco's wand, so had defeated him, even though it was just a matter of Harry snatching the wand away.

DS and I went to see it today....

Loved Dobby - his death was as sad in the movie as the book :sad1:

Missed the scene with Dudley - a minute or two would have been enough to bring closure to this part of the story.

The dress with Ginny was a bit out of character from the books.

Dancing scene was a light hearted moment in a sad movie.

Overall we enjoyed the movie but it wasn't our favorite by a long shot.

The wand follows the power trail, rather than the physical ownership of the wand. Thus, when Harry "defeated" Draco at Malfoy Manor, the power trail was now with Harry. I equate it to the Trace, except for random magical objects.
