Did you see Harry Potter? What did you think? SPOILERS inside!!

Trivia: The woman Hermione turns into at the Ministry is played by Sophie Thompson, sister of Emma Thompson (who has played Professor Trelawney in the HP films, amongs many many many other things).

In a similar vein (related actors) - Bill Weasley (Domhnall Gleeson) is the son of Mad-Eye Moody (Brendan Gleeson).

I missed the "Dudley says goodbye" business.

The fact that they are leaving this out really makes me mad. Dudley redeems himself in the book in a way, and it's an awesome moment. My husband's been saying for 2 months now that he really hopes they leave that part in, and he's going to be spitting cobra mad when he finds out that they don't!

He's making the mistake of reading the book before going to see the movie too. Which means I'm going to have to elbow him the whole time he's pointing out wrong things. :rotfl:

Thank god that we're going when the theater will be mostly empty! 11 AM showings.

Good movie! Man, they managed to cram a whole lotta stuff into that 2 1/2 hours. Poor DH hadn't read any of the books but has watched the series and was having a hard time keeping up with all the names that were being thrown at us.

I felt it was superbly done. Sure they "left out" some stuff, but nothing that will detract from the FILM SERIES as a whole. I think JK (who was a producer on this) isn't losing any sleep over it.

I wept at the Hermion scene in the beginning when she erased her parents memory.

I wept over Hedwig.

I wept over Dobby.

And I wept over the twins when George lost his ear...knowing what lies ahead in part 2.

This movie really IS the Empire Strikes Back of the Potter series. I hope that part 2 blows us all away.

PS...reading the credits, they mentione the Carrows (Alectus and Amycus who take over Hogwarts)...were they the ones who stopped the train?

Is this The Empire Strikes Back of the Harry Potter saga ”Deathly Hallows ”?

It is to me.

Almost forgot...know what really bummed me out?

They TOTALLY should've tacked on the trailer for Part 2 at the end of the credits!! And don't tell me they couldn't because it's not "done". Half the scenes in the trailers for part 1 were from things that happen in part2.

I am a huge fan, but this movie was very disjointed. For some reason they have decided that 150 minutes is their max movie time. This half of book 7 needed at least another 15-20 minutes to cover essential character relationship elements. I wouldn't rate this movie with more than 3 of 5 stars.

ETA - my older son's comment, when leaving the film - If you are going to tell the story this poorly, you could have done it with one film.

I did love the 7 Harry's with the polyjuice potion-especially Fleur in the bra. They all did a great job with that.

Oh, and Bill in the movie was in no way "COOL". He was supposed to be very "hot" and he isn't :lmao:.

I'll have to see it again because the ladies sitting behind me, who felt they needed to comment on every single thing that was happening, made it nearly impossible for me to get lost in the deep moments.

The moron in front of us at the movies last night thought he was funny and yelled, "Dobby NOOO!" When Dobby was killed, I about punched him in the head....way to ruin the mood. Stupid moron...

We were joking around in another forum that they should have ended it Back to the Future 2-style with a trailer showing them all in the Old West. Harry faces off against Tom "Mad Dog" Riddle, and Dumbledore shows up at the end in a flying Hogwarts Express. :rotfl:

I was actually glad we didn't get a trailer, it would have taken away from the emotional intensity of the ending.

In a similar vein (related actors) - Bill Weasley (Domhnall Gleeson) is the son of Mad-Eye Moody (Brendan Gleeson).

Also, the little boy who played young Tom Riddle in Half-Blood Prince is the nephew of Ralph Fiennes, who of course plays Voldemort.

I went to see the movie Friday night and OMG I thought it was AWESOME!!!! The things they left out didn't bother me too much and I was happy they pretty much stayed true to the book in this one. Now I can't wait until the last one comes out----even though I'll be sad the series is over.

I wanna see it again.. now.

I loved reading what everyone thought!! I don't think I can wait til next summer..

I just got back from seeing it too. 11 am showing, and the place was PACKED.

I thought it was awsome! I think it sets everything up for the final film. Which I'm ready to see, but don't want it all to end.

Just got back from seeing it for the second time! Even knowing what was going to happen, it didn't seem to drag at all! I am very excited to see the finale but it will be, of course, bittersweet.

Okay, just saw it and was very impressed. I think they did a very good job of editing down the 'camping trips' to essential points. Things I liked:

Neville: "Losers, he's not here!"

Dobby's little speech (DW is in "the _itch needs to die" mode when it comes to Bellatrix)

Ron sucking up after returning to the fold

The one thing that seemed out of place was the look on the face of Narcissa as Lucius was about to call Voldemoort; she seemed to have the same sadistically gleeful look that Bellatrix normally has at the thought of a death occurring. I always figured she was more in line w/her son in terms of not really wanting to go down the violent road again.

I did miss the bit about finding the photo and note in Sirius' bedroom.

Is it July yet???

We are just back and I thought the movie was outstanding! We lucked out, and went during the Packers game, so the movie theater was only about 1/4 full! Too bad there aren't Packers games in July, I guess I'll have to deal with a more full movie theater.:rotfl:

What I am dissapointed about is from my own making... I watched the TV spots on you tube, and some of the interviews and now I realize that it did me a big disservice because I saw so much of the movie before the movie. I've learned my lesson and won't go searching for interviews and tv commercials. I just have 2 things I want to know for the next movie... Do they do a segment from the Prince's Tale chapter and do they have the scene with Molly and Bellatrix. I don't want to see the clips, I just want to know if they are there or not.

As far as this movie goes, I still had to do alot of explaining to DH (he never read the books) and at the end he goes... "that's it?". I told him it was setting up for the final, but in a way I agree with him that the end of this movie was really choppy.

I loved the scene were Ron is kissing Mrs. Cattermole, it made me laugh out loud.

I also LOVED the part where Harry ("runcorn") tells Umbridge that you must not tell lies, OUTSTANDING!

Missed the Dursleys part. And I especially missed that Voldemort was not summoned to Bathilda's house or Malfoy mannor. It wouldn't have added that much more time to the movie, and it would have made it more intense that they needed to get out NOW!

Overall it was outstanding, and I can't wait for the next movie.

My wife noted that that was the entirety of his contribution to the film.

In the relevant section of the book I don't believe he appears at all.

He'll have more to do in the next chapter most likely.

We just got back. I thought this movie followed the book more closely then the other movies, it was kind of chopped up and slow moving at times though. One girl left the theater SOBBING when Dobby died. :confused3. I kept wishing they would turn up the lights on the set a bit though, everything was so dark :lmao:.

We saw it in IMAX. My husband thought that made a big difference in being able to see the darker scenes.

I just got back from seeing it with my friend this morning!

I thought it was great, but I was kind of in a haze because I couldn't believe I was finally getting to see it. I can't even find the words to describe how I feel about it, it seemed much different than the last movies.

The parts I teared up on were when George was hurt, the Harry/Hermione dancing scene, the torturing of Hermione, and the death of Dobby.

I was sad that the Dursley's part was cut, and a few minor things I disliked, but overall it was amazing. I was really hesitant about Malfoy's Manor because I wasn't sure how it would be handled but I thought they did well. I can't wait until July, I will definitely cry.

ETA: I also thought it was a bit scary. I jumped at a few parts, most of the the snake and a few other times throughout. I was constantly thinking "What's going to happen now?", but that's what made it good. I loved the Ministry scenes too and the Three Brothers Tale was great.
