Did you know you can have swine flu with NO fever?

I didn't know that, ugh! Everyone I know has some sort of cold going on this week!

I'm convinced I had swine flu in early May. We flew back from FL, later that night I woke up with a fever, body aches, cough, runny nose, sore throat. I ended up in the ER and was given antibiotics for an upper respitory infection even though my chest x-rays were clear. I really don't think they even tested me for swine flu. So, my hope is that it actually was and I won't get it again!

I've been sick all day today.. Ironically I had a doctor appointment for this afternoon, but had to cancel it because I couldn't drive that far.. (I'm still at the lake and it would have been a minimum drive of 2 hours each way - depending on the traffic..)

I woke up this morning with just a bit of a scratchy sore throat - no big deal..

Within an hour of being up, I started with a pounding headache, extremely sick to my stomach, and too tired to move out of my recliner.. No fever though.. My head is still pounding (even after taking meds for it) and I'm still very, very sick to my stomach.. I've taken two naps already today - and I'm not a "nap" person..

I'm hoping it's just a fluke - some sort of stomach bug - and I'll feel better tomorrow.. If it's any kind of flu, I'm sure I'll feel much, much worse by morning..

This is crazy.. We're all sitting around trying to figure out what we have or don't have because there seems to be so many variations of this illness..:confused3

Gonna double up on the prayers tonight because the last thing I need - or want - is the flu.. ANY kind of flu..:headache:

Interesting. Dd and I both had something that hit us the tail end of last week and went through the weekend. She popped a fever for a day, I never did, but we both had runny/stuffy nose, sore throat and stomach issues. Never crossed my mind that it could have been H1N1...it just seemed too mild. Would be nice if it was though, if it gives us immunity now.

For the past 3 weeks, everyone here at my office has succumbed to what we all thought was a really bad cold. None of us had a fever (or had a very mild one). So, now we wonder if we had H1N1 or a cold? This started out as a sore throat, proceeded on to major head and chest congestion, and a general feeling like dying would just be easier. ;) I came down with it the Friday before Labor Day weekend and took Friday off and was in bed until the following Tuesday. I still have the cough although not as severe.

If someone has already had H1N1 and didn't know it, will it cause any issues if you get the H1N1 shot?

I am wondering about the issue of being contagious. I always thought you were contagious as long as you had fever. This new flu without fever breaks that general rule.

Is this pretty much like the regular flu, in that there is no real meds, other than cold and flu symptoms treatment meds for it? Typical fluids and rest thing? My 2 and 1/2 year old just came down with something, hoping its not this. Although from what Im hearing the swine flu is not the terror it was originally made out to be. Thanks.

First DD then me, we had/have sore throat, cough, headache, runny/stuffy nose and fever. No naseua so I doubt we had flu of any kind. I am currently on day 6 and feel 80%. She had a much milder version of what I have/had. My highest fever was only 101.1.

Hey if it was H1N1 I guess that means we won't get it again, right? WooHoo!

Our staff and students have been battling a cold, it seems. Some have fevers, some don't. I was out last week 1 day with a low fever, another teacher lost her voice completely, and the day I was out 6 of my 37 students were also absent due to illness, most with the same symptoms as me. Another teacher had a fever of 102. I hope it's not the flu, but it's definitely spreading quickly whatever it is.

My DD is away at school in New York. She got sick yesterday. She says she aches all over, even her hands and feet. She is coughing, but is not terribly congested. She has no fever. She call medical at the school and can't get in before Friday. It sounds like the flu to me, but I hope it isn't. It's so hard when you children are far away from home like this.

My DD complained about aching; she also mentioned aching in her feet. That was the first day she had fever and then the second day, too.

I had it in May (no official diagnosis, but I work in the neighborhood where two colleges and a high school were shut down because of H1N1 the same week I got sick)... I didn't have fever until the 7th or 8th day. Went to 103, but only lasted that day. After that I felt better fairly quickly but it took a while to get my strength back.

Hoping that was it and I'm done with it. It was the strangest thing - just a series of ever changing symptoms accompanying feeling overall just rotten. That fever came on like a freight train, though, on a day I felt better enough to have returned to work.

My son (16) came down sick on Monday w/ a "cold" that put him in bed for 48 hrs straight. Then yesterday and today he's got his strength back and says he does not ache. He never had a fever.

Anyhow, I was sneezing like crazy yesterday and had a scratchy throat. Then about 7pm last night it hit me like a ton of bricks. I hurt all over, was sweating one minute- freezing the next, a lot of stomach upset, nasal congestion, BUT NO FEVER!

Anyhow, I went to the dr's first thing this morning (it's actually my work). The provider told me it sounds like the flu. I pointed out the lack of fever. They did a rapid flu test in the office-- and it was positive. So, I was sent home w/ a script for Tamiflu in hand since I was only going on 14 hrs w/ symptoms.

So, I'm thinking my son may have the flu too, but he's too far out to do anything but ride it out now. Though he's already improving at 4 days out. I think by Monday he'll be good to go back to school.

I feel really run down and achy- but not too bad otherwise. I did sleep most of the day away, and I'm sure my "energy burst" right now will not last. My throat is really sore and my nose is very runny, but if I can have it get no worse I'll be happy. I don't and won't know if it's H1N1 or just Influenza A, as they are not doing further testing in our community anymore.

So, it is possible I found out the hard way. Ironic part--- I was supposed to get my flu shot at work today. I guess my provider is recommending waiting 2- weeks now due to a combo of having the flu and taking the Tamiflu. Though they are still recommending I do get it.
