That a flat iron for straightening hair will work in a pinch . The collar on DD's golf shirt was sticking up and needed to be ironed down. I plugged in the iron and it wouldn't heat up . Her flat iron worked though.
I also used her hair dryer to get some of the major wrinkles out of the body of her shirt too. It worked better than I thought. I didn't want to use the Downy wrinkle release because the scent would attract bugs while she is out golfing.
The biggest bummer is that I LOVED that iron-well as much as anyone can love ironing I guess. It is 15 years old so it had a good, long life. Now I have to find a new one that is as good.
When I used to use a curling iron (I know, that dates me!) I would use it to straighten my clothes, It isn't as effective as a straight iron, but we didn't have it back then! And if it is already hot then why get out the big iron?
