I was just reading my Disney Insider :surfweb: and I saw this cool Cdn fact:

February 6, 1859 - Elias Disney (the future father of Walt Disney) is born to Kepple Disney II and Mary Richardson in Bluevale, Ontario, Canada.

Walt's Daddy was Canadian :)

I actually knew that. It is cool.

Yes I knew this. There is a house here in the town of Goderich(where I am from) that was aparently a summer cottage for one of Walt's uncles. Did you know that some of the carriages for the parades are made by a gentleman that lives in Bayfield Ontario? We were fortunate to host Disney's hometown parade in our town in Summer of 1999. Take care Kathy

out when I read the Walt Disney book, I was very surprised and also surprise that Goderich doesn't try to make it a landmark of some sort.

The "cottage/house" was a sight for sore eyes up until a couple of years ago when it was sold and completely restored...it is beautiful now. What book was it that you read? Thanks kat
Just found this...
INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT HURON COUNTY

Kepple Disney, the grandfather of the famed creator of Mickey Mouse and many other beloved cartoon characters settled in Bluevale in 1857? Kepple's eldest son, Walt's father was born on the family farm in Bluevale. Elais attended the one room Central School in Goderich - now part of the Huron County Museum.

Its also mentioned in the book by Neal Gabler " Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination"
I always knew that I had a special place in my heart for Goderich, Ontario, besides that a few family members lived there for a number of years.

:cool1:

By the way, do the firefighters still set off the fireworks off the pier and break water at the beach on July 1st?

They do still set the fireworks off on the 1st of July. There are always free hotdog lunches up on the square. A parade and a nature hike.
