Did you keep animals growing up?

Cats were my favorite, I had a few of them. I also had a couple dogs. Also had some hamsters, a bird, a mouse, (for about 10 minutes that escaped in the house never to be seen again) and rabbits.

We briefly had a cat when I was 10 but I then found out I was allergic so it had to go. That was it.

I had a dog when I was little, but he was given away to friends when I was 7 or 8. Didn't get another pet until I got my puppy when I was 19. I had him for 17 years.

I had cats growing up but desparately wanted a dog! My parents always said no because it was too much work. As soon as I got married and moved out, we got a dog. He was the best dog ever. He died in 2021 and we went back to cats (we also have a bird!)... my parents were right - dogs are too much work. ;)

We had animals but we didn't keep them. They were for food.
Same here.
We had animals that were a food source, we had horses that we bred & showed. We had barn cats and beloved dogs. Geese, a random sheep once. Chickens that came and went.
And two brothers, do those count :rotfl:

I have always had a dog since the age of 6 (Baron, Bingo, Humphrey, Jake, Max, and Hamilton). We have had goldfish, beta fish, and guinea pigs as well. We currently have 2 dogs and a rabbit. My husband would like us to be animal less but I can't image not having a dog in the house.

I got a kitten for Christmas when I was about 9 and had her until I was an adult. When I was in HS, we moved to a house with some land and we got 2 dogs and a horse.

My parents would never allow me to have cats or dogs on the farm. They always said it would cause trouble with the other animals. I realize now that that was just a good excuse to use on a kid who didn't know better but it worked back then. I learned not to get too close to any of the farm animals because I knew their days were numbered. That was a rough learning experience the first time.

We had dogs, cats, birds, fish, turtles, rats, skunks, snakes and hamsters. There were usually at least two pets at all times. I had 5 older brothers so they were always bringing something home (thus the rats, snakes, skunks).

Growing up I had 3 dogs (2 then 1), a cat, and a box turtle.

Since marriage we are on our second set of dogs, adopted an elderly cat from a family friend who was sadly dying of cancer, fostered several dogs and cats, had a 55 gallon tank of African cichlids, had 4 ducks plus one wild abandoned duck we raised last year, and a rabbit.

When we are able to move out of NY I would like some chickens and goats, but not quite time for that yet. I love ducks still but they are really messy.

As a kid we always had a dog or two. Sometimes fish and hermit crabs. As an adult I’ve had a dog—she’s 11 and fish.

We had dogs and cats. My brother had chickens and pigeons at different times. We had horses. And cows and pigs for meat.

Growing up we had goldfish, tropical fish, turtles, hamsters, 2 cats.
But not all at the same time though. So interesting to see others also had turtles.
