Did you have to pay tariff taxes for OneShare stock?

Hi all!

I just purchased from OneShare.com. I bought a share of Disney, My First Stock for my nephew's baptism. In my confirmation email from them there was this following statement,

"International orders may be subject to a Tariff Tax upon
delivery for wood and metal framed shares. OneShare
does not institute or cover the costs of these taxes.
Tariff taxes vary by country and are the sole
responsibility of the recipient."

Has anyone from Canada ordered from OneShare, and did you have to pay a tariff tax as described? If so, what should I be expecting to pay?

I want to know the answer to this too. What about duty? Is it the same as a tariff?

If the frame is manufactured in the US, then there will likely be no duty or tariff charged (thanks to NAFTA). You may still get dinged for GST/PST, however.

For those that might consider buying shares of Disney, you might think about going thru a discount broker in Canada.

Oneshare's cost is about $112 and I heard they do an awesome job on the whole package (Frame etc). For more than one share I think you can do better on your own. When I looked into it it was cheaper for me to do it myself, although I bought 10 shares for my DD on her first Christmas.

At the time, Disney was trading around $25 per share so all in it was about $300 US. I actually got a color copy of the share certificate and put that in the frame and the actual cert is in my safe deposit box.

Disney shares are trading for $29.29 today + trading charge and it cost an additional $15 to have the actual certificate issued. So total cost for 1 share would be about $75.00 plus cost of framing.

It was a neat gift idea and we got her first Dividend cheque for about 3 bucks this past year.
