Did you get a diploma when you graduated from HS/college?

@bcla I was at the University of Oregon, the Summer ceremony was mostly for PhD & Masters, but about half were undergrads. The Spring ceremony at the U of O was at Autzen (football stadium) and was done by college by college basis, completely impersonal. My ex GF and had decided we would do our internship, live together and then go walk together. The best part of that was the summer ceremony ;)

and they were very insistent that you MUST stay in your assigned order, etc or you would get your diploma (they didn’t announce individual names. They graduated in groups, then filed through a receiving line of faculty from your program.) This was a large state university, spring commencement in the football stadium, with about 10,000 graduates.
That sounds..like a logistical nightmare lol

I got the actual one in high school (of course, they really had no excuse - there were only about 120 of us) and I'm pretty sure I did in college as well.

I think I got my actual diploma in HS, College and University. But maybe I didn’t. It was so long ago, maybe I’m misremembering. Lol.

in hindsight it was remarkable that with a graduating high school class of over 400-we actualy were given our diplomas as we walked across the stage. only reason i remember is b/c a p.i.t.a. i graduated with kept going on and on afterwards about how her's did'nt was replaced with an itemized bill for the textbooks she had'nt turned in w/ a note to either bring them in or pay up the next day before the school closed for the summer to get the actual diploma:rotfl2: college? only did the walk for one of my degrees but i think it was an empty and they mailed it later (know that's what they did for dd's a couple years ago).

f you take your last final the day before your graduate, very tough to know the next day if you complete requirements. And I suspect schools don't want to pay to print up for diplomas for those who did not meet requirements and have accidentally sent you to those who did not qualify.

that's why our district does senior finals a week and a half before anyone elses. the seniors then get a few days off before they have to come in for grad practice and something else.

i've got a friend whose dh works in a district in your neck of the woods, sez he would kill to get that district to do the same b/c there's always a handful of kids he has to go to the practice to pull from line and notify that they are neither walking nor graduating.

Like many people here, for our HS graduation they gave us the folder and then we found our homeroom teacher after the ceremony and she gave us our actual diploma.

For college, they gave us a rolled up piece of paper tied with a bow. When you unrolled it, it was a paper telling you that your diploma would be mailed in a couple weeks.

Yes. But I did not receive one for getting my Master's in WDW Trip Planning :(

Maybe I will after getting my WDW planning Doctorate? :)

High school (81) we got the diploma at graduation. All 3 of my kids graduated from the same school and also received their diplomas at graduation

My AAS—the first one, we got the diploma at graduation. The other two they mailed. I work at the same college now and now they set up tents outside of graduation and the students can pick up their diploma there or let the school mail it.

In HS, we were given a blank rolled up sheet with nothing on it. In college, there was no walking; we just sorta stood up when they announced which degree(s) you were graduating with. In both cases, I had to head back to the building later to pick up the actual diploma.

I got my GED, I wish I would have gotten my diploma, And even going to college not enough money , and not going into debt for it.

I received both my high school and college diploma on stage in nice display holder. My daughter got her high school diploma on stage.

I can’t remember if I got an actual diploma for high school. We did get a document outlining all of our awards and extracurricular activities with statements by 3 of our teachers, a pin for the alumni association and a bible (which I actually use for swearing Affidavits at work). For university I got 2 diplomas as I did a double degree and they were presented as I walked across the stage.

High school, yes. It was given in a display holder. College, no. While we were given a holder inside there was a paper stating something to the effect of "you will receive your degree depending final grades" (we walked before finals grades were due), got the degree in the mail four weeks after walking.

Nope. I graduated 3 times (high school, college and law school). In every case, I was handed an empty folder, and got the actual diploma in the mail. My law school diploma, I had to purchase, and had the option of a smaller one to fit in the little case or a VERY LARGE (probably 11x15?) suitable for framing. I opted for the large one, and it's still rolled up inside the case it came in. You can see what the value I had on it by the time it came. It's not that I wasn't proud of it...I am...but I've always disliked the "glamour wall" in lawyer's offices. I have similar large certificates from being admitted to various Bar associations. Never displayed a one of them. LOL

I was never handed anything at graduation in college. We had to pick it up if we wanted it (I never bothered).

In HS we got a blank piece of paper to exchange after the ceremony for the real one. I have no clue where it is.

Received blanks for both HS and college. For HS we got our actual diploma after commencement and for college it was mailed. When DD graduated college a few years ago they also mailed her diploma. I don't remember what they did for her HS.

We did receive our diploma at graduation in high school (it was a small class, about 77 total graduates). I don't know where my high school diploma is.

For my bachelors degree, we got a diploma cover at commencement because it was held the weekend before we completed our finals for the semester. I think my actual diploma was mailed about a month later. I have that diploma framed and hanging in my office.

A question for those with college diplomas: does your diploma show your major or is it more general? Mine shows that I have a Bachelor of Science from the College of Arts and Sciences but it doesn't show my actual major.

I picked up my high school diploma after the ceremony. My graduating class was about 180 kids so we got an empty holder. For my bachelor's, we got an empty holder at the ceremony and the diploma was mailed home. I also have a master's degree but did not attend that ceremony. Diploma was mailed home, without a holder.

I don't remember if we got our actual diplomas at graduation in high school.

In college we did not, as grades were not actually finalized before the ceremony (finals ended Friday and graduation was Saturday). They gave us a picture of Tech Tower and mailed diplomas after.
