I did, and my DD8 LOVES it when I sing it to her...

You are my little Girl
Just like a perfect pearl
You came in to my life
To make everything right!

This is my sons (now 11), he does not LOVE it when I sing it now :rotfl2:

Mommy's little baby is so sweet
The perfect little face
And two little feet!

I made this up during the many sleepless nights :teeth:

I remember a song my DM sang to me, I don't know if she made it up or not though:

I've a dear little dolly, her eyes are bright blue
She opens and shuts them and smiles at me too.

In the morning I dress her and we go out to play,
But I best like to rock her at the end of the day.

oh, yes....several.

DS is 21 now

he's mortified whenever i sing any of them now!

Yes, I have always made up songs for them. Some of them have stood the test of time and some are original one-time wonders.

The most wonderful thing of all is now they make up songs for ME!

I made up many songs for my kids. I loved singing to them before bedtime. Here is one I sang to my infant son.

Sweet little baby in my arms,
smile so warm and gentle.
Sweet little baby in my arms,
blue eyes like the sea.

Sweet little baby in my heart,
always have you with me.
Sweet little baby in my heart,
love will follow you.

Sweet little baby in my life,
grow in strength and wisdom.
Sweet little baby in my life,
soon will be a man.

And he did... he is 21, 6'3", and is one of the wisest people I know. :)

I've made up one for each child to the tune of Edelweiss (is that how it's spelled?). My grandmother made one up for us. Actually, I think it was my great grandmother, but my grandmother used to sing it to us all the time. It went: "Bee-oh, bee-oh, bye-oh, bee-oh, bee-oh, bye. Granny's little baby, Granny's little girl. Bee-oh, bye-oh, baby, baby, bee-oh, bye. Bee-oh, bee-oh, bye-oh, bee-oh, bee-oh, bye." :sad1:

I wanted to sing it at her funeral, but I knew there was no way I'd get through it.

Yes! I make up songs for my girls all the time.

My first one's first lullaby is to the tune of "Clementine"...
Oh my baby
Oh my darling
Oh my precious little girl
You're my sweetness
And I love you
Elyzabeth Victorya

and

Love you in the morning
Love you in the evening
Love you when the sun goes down
(and then she added the following, said all in one big breath)
To the ground and the moon comes up and it's nighttime

By the time DD#2 came along, reality must have hit, because here are her two lullabies:

Emma Dilemma in her bouncy seat
She cries so hard but she looks so sweet!

and...

Stinky feet
Stinky feet
Emma has some stinky feet!

I also like to sing them lullabies and stick their names in there, such as Rockabye Baby but instead of Baby, I say their name. Emma hates that, she says I'm doing it wrong. But she gets so mad that she forgets to cry, so I guess it still works!

I made up all kinds of lullabyes for my children when they were little, but don't remember them. I do remember a song my middle child made up for himself, though, when he was about 4. The title is "Fluffy little meatball" and it goes like this:

Fluffy little meatball.
Fluffy little meatball.
Fluffy little meatball.

After all, he was only 4, so his vocabulary was limited.

I made up songs for each one of my four kids. and my youngest still ask me to sing his song and he's almost 10.
Kim

Oh! I just remembered another one. This one is sung to the tune of the Blue's Clues song about looking for clues, and I used to sing it to my younger DD when she was a newborn and diapers kept falling off of her:

You ain't got no booty
You ain't got no booty
You ain't got no booty
Just a baby butt

She doesn't like that one anymore. Hmmm, I wonder why?

Not a lullabye, but we did create the infamous rollicking "Fussies" number once on a VERY lo-o-o-o-n-g road trip when DS had colic and we couldn't pull out of traffic because of a jam. We were belting it out at the top of our lungs for hours with the windows down, and I think all the other drivers thought we were insane:

We don't do fussies here
We don't do fussies here
No, no, no - dear, oh, dear
We don't do fussies here

Otherwise, my family is amused by my penchant for using the a slowed-down version of the chorus of The Crúiscín Lán as a lullabye; it's actually an Irish drinking song.

DH likes to lull babies to sleep with the National Law Journal, read in a tone of voice you might use for Beatrix Potter.

Not exactly, but I did sing Forever Young to her an awful lot. It sounded like my own creation since I sound nothing like Rod Stewart. :lmao:

Hello,
This may be an old post but, I just found it.
When my daughter was a baby I'd sing
" Rockaby baby, on the tree top, when
the wind blows the cradle will rock. When
the cradle rocks, my baby will sleep. Sleep
well my baby, peaceful and deep."
The old fashion version always bothered
me. I mean who ever thought singing about
babies falling out of trees was lullaby material?
JMOHO.

Wow, this is an old thread.

I sing this one to my girls:

(To the tune of Braham's Lullaby)

Dry your tears,
Tiny tears,
You're my very own baby.
Mommy's here,
Tiny tears,
And I'll always love you so.

My DD asks me to sing it to her when she's tired or hurt. Of course it melts my heart!!

We sang Off Kilter's "Run, Run Away" a lot. Slowed down and softened a bit, but it makes quite the nice lullaby.

I also sang a version of "Goodnight Sweetheart Goodnight" by the Spaniels. "Goodnight, Sweet Boy Goodnight".

ETA: DH is a huge Off Kilter fan and told them about our lullaby after a show one night. They got a big kick out of "Run, Run Away" being a lullaby!

I made up a song for my son, I still sing it to him most nights...

hey little baby, close your eyes
mama's gonna stay right by your side

hey, hey, hey

hey little baby, don't you fuss
moma's not in a rush

hey little baby, don't you cry
mama's gonna sing you a lullabye

hey little baby, don't you worry
mama's not in a hurry

hey little baby, don't you know
mama's never gonna let you go

I made this up when he was a newborn and wouldn't go to sleep. It worked almost every time. It drove my DH nuts, cause I CAN NOT sing, seriously I am the worlds worst singer, I couldn't carry a tune in a suitcase, but my DS loved it.

When I was pregnant with my son (now 13) my daughter (then 7) said, "I can't wait for you to have the baby, then you can sing to HER and stop singing to ME" I made up tons of little songs with her name in them. It wasn't long after he was born that she was crying I wasn't singing "her songs" anymore.

Now I sing to the dog.
To the tune of Davy Crockett:

Maddy, Maddy Crockett
Puppy of the wild frontier-

(I'll spare you the rest, it just goes down hill from there)

Not a lullabye, but we did create the infamous rollicking "Fussies" number once on a VERY lo-o-o-o-n-g road trip when DS had colic and we couldn't pull out of traffic because of a jam. We were belting it out at the top of our lungs for hours with the windows down, and I think all the other drivers thought we were insane:

LOL - our youngest had colic as well and I remember holding him and pacing back and forth for hours on end singing
Poor little <baby's name> nothing but a cry baby Aaaall daaaaaaaay looooong
Poor little <baby's name> nothing but a cry baby Aaaall niiiiiiiiiight loooooong

somehow this song made us both feel better :)

OK, not sweet and sentimental, but did anyone else have a baby who couldn't keep 2 socks on?

They call him Mr. One Sock, Mr. One Sock
When he walks down the street
They call him Mr.One Sock, Mr. One Sock
Everyone he meets

They call him Mr. One Sock, But Mr. One Sock
This I must repeat
It takes more than just one sock
To cover up your feet.
