Did you drive to AK for early EMH? Tell me about parking.

We are planning to drive from BWV to AK for EMH on Monday 5/2. I usually like to get to the gates 30 minutes before opening (whether EMH or regular park opening). But I don't want to get to the AK parking lot at 7:20 a.m. and find it closed. I feel like I read somewhere that they are sometimes slow to open this lot in the mornings. True?

Are we better off aiming to get there around 7:50?

PS - We are not really interested in taking the bus...thus the rental car!

I did this last year; if I remember correctly the parking lot was open an hour or so before the gates opened, and you get to park up close.

Yes.

Maybe on a few random mornings everbody was not neat and pretty and in place.

If the Animal Kingdom lot were never slow to open then you would be able to drive in at a time that the average man on the street would consider reasonable, and nothing unpleasant would happen including but not restricted to seeing Mickey with his red shorts down.
