We did, but I wasn't really planning to until about a week before the wedding when my MIL asked about it. I got on the phone real fast and ordered one!

No, I also had never heard of them until I read it on here.

We knew about groom's cakes, but we had a super small wedding, so it would have been overkill.

Grooms cakes are just for fun and because the couple usually doesn't get more than a bite of their real cake on the wedding night (they're too busy). We had a groom's cake for the reception following our rehersal. DH was allowed to do whatever he wanted with it, an I highly approved of his choice. It was in the colors of the college that we, and all four of our biological parents attended. The cake was even swirled with these colors inside. Then, since we were having classy looking flowers on top of our real wedding cake, we had a cheesy topper for the groom's cake. It was a bride strangling her husband-to-be...it was perfect for us...the couple even looked like us.

Never heard of it before.

If its a cake at the rehearsal dinner, then I guess we had one, but it wasn't anything we picked out or had a say in. A relative brought it to my in-laws house. It was just a regular congrats type of cake.

Off to google exactly what a grooms cake is and when its for.

Sounds like another way for wedding industry to get more money. ;)

Well there ya go, I'm not from the South so that probably explains why I'm never seen one still to this day. http://weddings.weddingchannel.com/...qa/what-is-a-grooms-cake-do-you-need-one.aspx

Yep, it was a red velvet Bart Simpson cake. It was appropriate for my DH at the time. ;)

Yep-yellow cake, fudge filled, with chocolate frosting. It was a suprise becaue it is dh's fave and what he wanted for the wed cake. I had to tell him that a choc frosted wed cake was unlikely!

DFiance will have a Grooms Cake at our Rehersal Dinner!! I'm so excited for him to see it. It's a Sonic the Hedgehog cake, his favorite video game from childhood. :)

Saw no point in it. We both wanted the exact same wedding cake design we saw in a magazine and we got a cake that would feed three times the people that were there :)

I had never heard of such a thing until about a year ago. :confused3So since we got married 13 years ago, yet another thing DH was deprived of. ;)

Wasn't there a groom's cake in Steel Magnolias? Wasn't it a grey armadillo cake? I think that's where we got the idea from. We had a banana cake with chocolate icing, DH's favorite. It was 1993 & I'd say 25%of weddings we went to back then had a grooms cake.

Nope, never even heard of it till my boys started getting married. When my boys started getting married here I first heard of it, they all had them

Yup. We did...it's a southern tradition...I've yet to go to a wedding where there wasn't a groom's cake...it's just what you do.

No, but we had a very small wedding in Gatlinburg, with less than 30 friends/family. We just had the wedding cake that came w/ the package.

Yes, 22 years ago. We had charms attached to ribbons under the first layer of cake. Members of our wedding party each pulled out one charm. (Ex. horseshoe represented good luck) My MIL handled my DH's groom's cake. I do remember that it was chocolate.

We didn't because our wedding cake was beautiful, delicious and cost a small fortune. We didn't want another cake to draw attention away from the wedding cake. :goodvibes
