:thumbsup2 O.K., O.K., I know it is now "technically" the Willis Tower, ( never to us Chicagoans) but WOW! It was SOOOOOOOO COOOOOOOL! We did not do the $30 express pass ( per person) so the wait was about 2 1/2 hours :scared:, ( Venetian night a lso, so lots of folks in the city) regular rate is $15 each. I would have stayed up there for the whole night, but after an hour or so, moved on back to the lakefront. My kids loved it as well, DD got some cool shots, will try and get them on here soon, she will need to help me. For anyone planning to go up, bring some reading material or at least happy people along with you..but definitely go, it is really a neat thing to do. There was a brief shower and I told the kids to look for a rainbow, and sure enough, and we could see both ends of it at the same time. Decided spur of the moment ot head into the city and try for it...really glad we did.

I watched a segment on my morning news last week and broke out in cold sweats. My fear of heights would never allow me to do that! I can't wait to see your pictures.:scared1:

I normally would have paused, still done it because I think it is such a cool opportunity, but I never freaked a bit, not ever entered my mind.Even when they announced it was a plan, I thought it was really awesome and had hoped we could get up there this summer. My DS and DD's BF, on the other hand, while they did go right out, felt a little unsure of the mechanics/strength...their brains took over where mine didn't care.(:lmao:the teenagers ahd more common sense..gotta love being 40-something!) I think because the floors of it get kinda scratched up, ( you do not put fabric booties on like the one at the Grand Canyon ( I think)---so it is not completely *seam-less* in viewing..matter of fact it still did not seem real to me, I mean, it WAS real, but I guess I still felt since their was a barrier even though it was clear, it was a barrier. I loved it, like I said, I could've stayed up there for hours. I think the sheer volume of people ( and no one was regulating how many/how long..I guess if there IS a weight limit ;)...folks were being very fair about stepping in, and moving on. There were 3 available ledges on the side of the building that is a straight shot down, and a 4th that was blocked out..it had a covering on the floor of it so I think maybe it needs to be buffed out already or along those lines.
Anyway, now I am hooked...while not as high up, next I think I will go for the open air deck on the Hancock building, actually feel that Chicago "breeze"!

I'm so jealous! I friend posted pics on her Facebook the other day and it looked amazing.

Glad you had fun! Can't wait to see pics :goodvibes

You're braver than I am!!!

Where do you wait at? And what do you see when you look straight down? The road?

well, the wait begins outside, dow n Jackson, and around the corner...:rolleyes1..at least for us it did. We got off the train at 3:55 pm and the line from outside to Ticket booth took until 5:05. There is a security check, just like the airport (so leave you belts, etc. that set it off at home), then a digital picture is taken of you for optional purchase later, THEN the ticket booth. Ride a quick elevator to another floor ( down, I believe) THEN you are hearded into the waiting room for the short movie clip( 7-8 minutes) about the history of the Tower. This waiting and movie took about another 1/2 hour, 45 minutes. THEN you are hearded into another room with to wait to go thru a single turnstyle into the main elevator hallway. There are public (2 )elevators to the top viewing floor. All in all we reached the top about 2.5 hours from arriving, but I can honestly say it was worth it. Now , for those who want to get to the main elevator hall and by-pass 85% of the waiting, you can purchase the Express pass for $30 each. If you are a small group and pressed for time, that is the plan I would take. While we got in line outside there was a girl telling everyone it would take about 2.5 hours to get to the top and she was right. As far as what you can see, well, yes, the street, the river, various rooftops, straight down the side of the building, Spiderman style :thumbsup2, you can see the people in the ledge next to you, so you see them and nothing under them, and you realize that is how you look to them....again, very cool. You are free to stay in the viewing floor as long as you like, there are bathrooms, the most expensive snacks ever for sale, you can see 4 states on a clear day...you just have to share the ledge in nice reasonable manner and you are free to go back to ledge or ledges as often as you are up top.
You know how theTower has multiple levels to it's basic structure,, so the ledges are placed on the side of the building that is not interupted by the levels, so you can see STRAIGHT down....our photos are on DD's camera, and she is not here to help me get them onto the DIS, but I will get to it, I promise, hopefully after she is done with work late tonight.
And my tip for any females planning to go...ummmm, there were MANY people taking pictures of the ledges from the street level ( as they protrude from the building a bit) anyone with a powerful zoom will be able to get a very clear shot from underneath you,,,wear shorts, pants//leave the skirts at home. Justy my advice.:rolleyes1

Holy Cow. I wish I was brave enough. My stomach drops from the pics. They would have to carry me off of it. My legs would not work I'm sure.

Hell to the no! There's no way I'd do it. Noooooo way! If the floor was a solid color so that you couldn't see through it, I MIGHT be able to handle it, but not a glass floor. :scared1:

My thoughts exactly!

Oh my -they weren't there when we were in Chicago last, but I would love to experience that! Can't wait to see your pictures..
