Did I spend money unnecessarily?

I did it. I booked a room at Hotel New York for June. Now I'm wondering if I did the right thing. My first choice was Newport Bay but their pool is closed until October. The reason I chose HNY was the a/c and the pool. Now I'm wondering it is worth the extra money? Sequoia Lodge has a pool but no a/c but is the a/c necessary in June?

I don't think it would be a complete necessity. You would expect temperatures of 21 - 23 degrees so not unbearably hot. But you have booked a lovely hotel with very big comfy beds and its proximity to the park is a great bonus, your feet will thank you!
If you stand to get a refund though I would consider changing to the Sequoia as its not long since it was refurbished and the rooms feel very fresh and new.

The Sequoia has got a/c - its lovely and cool, and in the winter the rooms are toasty! :)

I hated the Cheyenne one summer because it's a huge fan, and I found it necessary at night time as it got stuffy, but it was noisy! Other times I'm ok as long as the fan doesn't squeak :)

I have stayed twice in each of these hotels, and I love them both. It sounds like you got a good deal for Hotel New York.

Both hotels have:
Spacious rooms (equal size)
A/c
Pool

Advantages of Hotel New York:
Closer to the parks/Village (it's basically IN the village!)
Hot breakfast items
Not so big so feels more exclusive and rooms aren't so far from main facilities
More of a 4 star, luxury feel

If none of the things on that second list are THAT important to you, and you can get a refund by switching to Sequoia Lodge, then I assure you you'll have an equally great stay there. Everyone's priorities are different.

The Sequoia would save me $361 and now that I know it has a/c and its recently been refurbished, think I'd like to switch.

How long to walk to the parks from HNY vs. Sequoia Lodge?

Also, will they allow me to switch it will be a downgrade?

HNY is just next to Disney village. so 5 mins? We loved HNY. And we were disappointed with SL. I would choose HNY over SL. But it does save you a good amount of money. Oh, and we never walked from SL, but took the bus. It's not far from HNY, next to it.

We loved the SL when we stayed there last year and are returning in May. It's only about five minutes further round the lake from the HNY.

$361 is a pretty substantial savings, I'd probably go for SL. Try to get a room in the main building if you can. Think of it as The Polynesian Main building vs the Long Houses. If you're in the furthest away building it adds quite a bit of walking. Just keep in mind that Sequoia lodge is not Wilderness Lodge, but still nice.

Good Florida comparisons in the last post there!
Although both have ac, I would add that ac really isn't as important a feature here in Europe as it is in the states. Being from Atlanta you're likely to find June in France to be on a spectrum from cool to pleasant!

But staying in lodge may add to the savings. It saved us 160 eur switching from main building to a lodge.

Hi,
If Disney want to charge you to downgrade, and you don't want to pay a charge, then you might consider adding something to your package that you were going to pay for anyway, such as a meal plan or a character meal, or Buffalo Bills. If this keeps the original cost the same, or slightly more, then you shouldn't have to pay a charge. Obviously your're not getting the cash back into your pocket, but it is money saved if you were going to fork out anyway.

All is well that ends well! I made the switch to Sequoia and the Disney Representative that helped me was so nice and helpful! Thanks, everyone, for your help!
