Did I pick the right resort?

My family and I plan to stay for five nights at POFQ. There is something that tells me that I should stay at AKL. I have a DD (5) and DS (3) and an infant. We will only be going to MK and MGM, the rest of the time will be spent at the resort. My kids like to swim a lot and with the infant I want to be able to keep them busy.

In prior years we have been to the Poly and WL. I have never been at POFQ or AKL. My kids love animals, but Downtown Disney is so close to POFQ. I need the help of the most dedicated disney fans in the world!

If they love to swim, they'll love the themed pool at POFQ!

And with such little ones, AKL is only near AK, it's a very long bus ride to MK and the other parks. POFQ is more central to all the parks, and very close to DTD.

I think you picked just fine. The nice thing about Disney hotels is that no mater which one you choose, you cant lose!

POFQ is my absolute favorite moderate and I think you'll really enjoy it there. The resort is compact, so no matter which building you are in, it's a really quick walk to get everywhere. The pool is fun and there is a kiddie one too. My nephews still remember the pool from this resort and it's been a few years since they have been there. My family stayed at AKL a few years ago and they said although it was nice, they found the room dark and it was quite a hike from their room to everything else.

Well, AKL is our favorite resort, so my opinion is gonna be biased, but I say switch to AKL!! Even though AKL is not near MK or MGM, their buses are dedicated to AKL so no stopping at other resorts. We liked the POR, but you do have to stop at both POR and POFQ, both going and returning.

My DD is 14 and a pool fiend, and she loves the AKL pool - there's no Mardi Gras themeing, but there is a wonderful play area right at the pool, and you are so close to the flamingoes you can almost touch them!(And for Mom and Dad, the pool bar is right there, too!;) ) And there are lots of activities for little ones, cookie decorating, games, night vision tracking, etc. We often found ourselves leaving the parks early to head back to the resort!!

We adore the AKL, the exotic theme, the wonderful smell of the lobby, the friendly cm's who are always ready to talk of their homeland. When we enter this resort, we immediately feel peaceful, calm and relaxed. The restaurants are wonderful - Boma is one of the best buffets at WDW and Jiko is one of our favorite upscale restaurants, with a large selection of So. African wines and delicious food. And if budget allows, and you can book a savanna room, nothing beats sitting out on your balcony in the early morning watching the animals.

Hope you have a great vacation, whichever resort you choose!!

I have been hearing great things about POFQ. There are some great new pics on Debs site

Good Luck

How could it be wrong? You picked it and your at WDW! Have a great trip!

Before I would stay at AKL, I would choose WL. It is close to MK (by boat) and is convenient to Fort Wilderness (petting zoo, Backyard BBQ, Hoop Dee Do, etc.). The best place (IMHO) is the Poly. Can't beat it for the convenience to MK and Epcot, as well as the atmosphere, pool, dining, etc. Jay

I wouldn't change to the AKL with such small children. The travel time on the buses will be an issue. It took between 40 mins to an hour to return for naps from just about anywhere when we were there in May

Tough choice! We love both of these resorts! I would say that you need to base your choice on your personal needs.

POFQ - great themed pool area AKL - pool has a graduated entry, so your little ones can go as deep as they feel comfortable

POFQ - shares bus with POR and you will make anywhere from 1-3 stops on your way to a location--buses will most likely be full! AKL - no stops until you reach your destination

POFQ - moderate resort and you will enter your room from outside AKL - deluxe resort you enter your room from a common hallway

POFQ - food court (with beignets) and light service pool bar AKL - food court (can get zebra domes), Boma (buffet) and Jiko - upscale eatery, pool bar, indoor bar

POFQ - small shop for basic needs AKL - large shop with various souvenirs and basic needs

POFQ - have the boat to DD AKL - have the animal viewing

I would say that the cost may also play a factor

you can stay for less at POFQ and it is a beautiful resort! AKL is a wonderful place to stay!

Can you split your stay? Half at one and then try the other?

I wanted to thank everyone for their help. I knew I came to the right place.
