Did I pick the right resort? (Poly?)

Is it normal to have major pre-wedding-like cold feet after you finally book your trip? I was so certain that Poly was the perfect resort for us, but now that I'm booked, I'm freaking out that I made the wrong choice and should have gone with GF.

Here's why I chose Poly:
- Kids will love the theming (ages 3 and 4)
- View of fireworks from pool
- GF not likely to feel luxurious compared to Ritz Carlton and therefore would be disappointing... better to go with something not even trying to be the Ritz.
- DS will love the monorail view from the longhouse we picked.
- Good coffee.

What do you think? Did I make the right choice??:confused3

I think you made the right choice. We have tried quite a few deluxes and NONE of them are anywhere near ritz. But have wonderful qualities all in there own. Your dds will love the fireworks, water parade and pool. They have alot of activities at the resort in the afternoons if you plan to have any down time that are alot of fun for kids. No clue on coffee.....dislike it myself! :scared: But I'm sure you'll be very happy with your choice. :)

It's normal to second guess yourself after picking a resort. I know I do it! I have been to both the Poly and GF, and both are wonderful. I love the tropical theming of the Polynesian, and the GF is just as impressive as it looks in photos. Maybe you can try the GF next time around. I'd recommend the GF around the holiday season. The grounds, tree in the lobby, and gingerbread house are breathtaking. Unless you're going for the Christmas season, stick with the Poly. You and the kids will love it!

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! We are going the first week in December!!!! WHAT SHOULD I DO??? Should I switch to GF??

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!

It took me over a year to convince my DH to let me plan this trip. It has to be perfecto.

I'm freakin'. Ya'll help me.

STAY at the Polynesian, but plan a dinner (or breakfast) at 1900 Park Fare so you can go over and visit the gingerbread house. :)

What previous poster said. Stay at the Poly (the kids will like it better -- the volcano pool rocks and also check out the Neverland Club with them during the day for no charge) and go visit GF's gingerbread house and other decorations.

One of the previous posters had a great idea. Just take the monorail over to the GF one morning on your way to MK. Stop at the 1900 Park Fare, have breakfast, and then check out the Christmas decorations. The 1900 Park Fare has a yummy buffet character breakfast. Then, you could keep your Poly reservation, but also partake of the GF decorations.

The Poly is great. You'll love it. As the PP said, go over to the GF for a meal and take a look around. Whichever resort you choose, you'll have a wonderful vacation.

I've actually heard that the GF is somewhat annoying to stay at during Christmas time, due to the HOARDS of people who invade the lobby to check out the gingerbread house. Join the hoard...visit the GF to see the decorations, then go back to your nice, tranquil Polynesian!

I think you made the right choice. I JUST made the same decision about our first trip as a family, and our boys will be 3 and 4 at the time as well. Poly won, hands down!

I'd also visit the Wilderness Lodge, especially since you are visiting during Christmas time. While we love the resort anytime, from what I've read, and seen on tv about it, it's especially "magical" at Christmas. I've only seen photos of the tree that towers through the lobby, but it's got to be spectacular in person. The lobby itself is worth the trip on it's own..let alone at Christmas.;)

I stayed at The Poly in November and liked it...but just to chime in..my kids are 6, 7 and 10 and the only hotel that they really thought was cool was the CR. Everytime we went through that hotel they stated how much they wanted to stay there..the idea of the monorail going through that resort enamors kids...I did all the research and really thought the Poly was the best choice but I was wrong..I am surprising my kiddies in August and guess where I am booked? and in a MK view!

and just a question...how do you know you are getting a monorail view? It is garden, bay or MK view. I guess you mean you requested it but you shouldn't list that as one of your reasons because you may not get it.

I agree with the above poster. Disney doesnt promise anything with view requests. If you want a good view of the monorail, I suggest Aotearoa, third floor monorail side as your request :thumbsup2

That's what I requested:yay:

OK, I'm feeling better about this. Thanks so much:flower3: . I know my husband would not like the Contemporary. It's just not his style.

Putting 1900 Park Fare on my ADR list. Do they do lunch there also?

I am pretty sure 1900 Park Fare just serves breakfast and dinner. The hotel and restaurant are more quiet around breakfast time, so I would recommend the morning for viewing the lobby and Christmas decorations. I noticed the hotel and restaurants became quite busy with activity around dinner time. We made our ADR for 8:30am one morning and had a peaceful and delicious breakfast before heading over to the MK. It was a character breakfast, and we got lots of great photos with the kids. The characters I remember were the Mad Hatter, Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, Tigger and Pooh. It was a great time. I'd highly recommend it.

Your kids would probably not care for it either. It's too "mod" for such young kids. Teenagers love it, but it's not as toddler friendly as the Poly. The pool, especially, is not good for little ones.

I would second the idea to visit the WL as well. That place is SO impressive, to kids and adults. The huge tree will fascinate your children. You should perhaps try to eat at the Whispering Canyon Cafe. Lunch there is good! I would love to stay there, but the transportation leaves a lot to be desired (I've stayed there 3 times) and while our kids are little and in strollers primarily, I really think the monorail is best.

You're going to have a great time!
