Did/do you have a TV in your room when growing up? Inspired by I banned TV last night

No, I never had a TV in my bedroom growing up. We were outside all of the time playing, and riding bikes.

My parents had total control of the TV. Nowadays it seems like kids can watch anything.:D

We had one TV in the whole house when we were growing up!!!

Now we have 5!!!!

I still don't have a TV in the bedroom, tho.

No TV in my room until I came home from college. My parents had one in their room and we had one in the living room. That was it.

That's also when I got my own phone line, but I paid the bill & paid for the installation. And, after coming home & catching my younger sister happily chatting away on a long distance phone call, I also paid for the lock on my door.

My sister and I had one when we were 13 and 15 that we had to share between our two bedrooms...one week she'd get it and the next I would...it was a little black and white tv and I can remember long negotiations over that set..."If you'll let me keep it one more week, I'll do your week of dishes" etc.

When I got my first TV for my room and yes, it was a black and white 9 inch TV. :o My kids used it when they were about 2 & 3 years of age, but I got them a Color TV later.:p

Nope, growing up I did not have a tv, phone, or computer in my room. None of us kids did.

DH and I have already decided that our kids will not have tv's or computers in their bedrooms. We also have 5 tv's in the house, only one in a bedroom is mine :) We also have 3 computers in the house, none in bedrooms. Enough stuff everybody can use what they want, when they want, but I can monitor what the kids are doing. Also don't want them to hole up in their rooms.

They are young but eventually I will get them cell phones though. I want to be able to reach them when I need to.

When my parents bought their first color TV set, the old B&W console set went into my bedroom. I remember watching the 1969 moon landing on the set in my bedroom. I don't recall watching much TV there. I think it was more the novelty of having a TV in my room. When I went to college 4 years later, I took the set with me. I put it in the common room that I shared with 5 others. The set didn't last very long at college.

My son has a 20 year old color set in his room. It's not hooked up to cable and it takes 30 minutes to warmup (which is quite odd for a transistor TV set). We were going to throw it out when we got a new 13" set for our guest room, but we decided to let James have it. I think that he feels the same way about his TV that I did about mine. It's just the novelty of being able to say that you have a TV in your bedroom (even if it is a worthless piece of junk).

No.

Even today, we only have one Television and will never have any more than that. Though we do have cable.......

I got a t.v. for my room on my 10th. birthday. I had to show that all homework was completed before being allowed to watch.

A princess phone arrived for my 11th. birthday. Worst mistake ever! That thing got me into all sorts of trouble! :sad2:

I have a tv in my room, but it's mostly for my dvd player. It's either that or force people to watch LOTR and movies nobody else likes(but I do watch some tv too).No cable hookup but I'm looking into a spilter so I don't have to wage war to watch my shows

never had a tv in my room growing up. we had one in the family room, and an old black and white in the kitchen. we used to try to sneak shows on that one. LOL! Stand and have the tv on very quietly, ready to run at the first sound of mom or dad. Ah, memories of threes company!

Come to think of it, my parents had a tv in their room for a while. I remember doing the same thing...standing in their room one night while they were downstairs. still remember what was on...Logan's Run. they interupted it with news that Pope John Paul was elected. Can't remember if it was 1 or 2.

My dh had a tv in his room growing up, but I have already told him no for our kids.

I didn't have a TV in my bedroom, in fact the only TV was in the living room. :D
Ditto!

And I don't plan on my kids having one any time soon! They're 2 and 3.5.

FYI.....a 3-year-old friend of my daughter's already has a TV/VCR combo in his room! YIKES!

We do watch a bit of tv...Disney movies or PBS if the kids are awake...but I prefer to monitor what they watch and control how much....and you can't do that if it's in their room :)

Yes...I had a tv, vcr, and nintendo in my room...not sure what age I got those.

Yes I had a TV in my room. The TV kept me out of trouble. I was a odd kid. I always doing bike stunts on the bicycle and always end up hurt. So my mom toke the bicycle away from me because she could not afford the hositpal bills anymore     ;) .

The year my favorite movie, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, came out on VHS for the first time was when I received a tv and vcr for Christmas. Pretty cool.:teeth:

nope...............didn't get a tv in the house till I was about 7 & then never got colour till I was 15. My parents could not afford much.

We had a TV in the Den and one in the living room when I was growing up. We had a small portable black and white (with no cable) that we would put in a bedroom if someone was in bed sick. I think that is the only TV my Mom has in her bedroom now!

My kids each have TVs in their rooms but they hardly EVER watch them. My 10 year old DD likes to watch the FOOD network (she has a crush on Bobby Flay) at nite. I dont think my 5 year old EVER watches her TV unless she wants to watch a video and someone is already using the VCR in the den.

My kids would rather be on the computer or doing arts/crafts then watching TV so we really dont need to restrict them from TV too much. We watch a few shows as a family all together in the living room and that is their main "tv time".

No TV for any of us. My sister messed up on the phone and I got the punishment thanks to her! She had her own phone line. My parents were tired of her phone ringing at 1 a.m. (Good goin' sis!) When my turn came along, I was only allowed an extension.
