She was bad. She was trying to hard and messing up the lyrics is not a good thing in my book. My Aunt and I were cringing when she did that.
Yes, I agree she botched the anthem however I'm probably the only person who enjoyed the half time show.![]()
I still haven't figured out which was worse - her botched attempt at the national anthem, or or that "TRON: THE MUSICAL" thing at halftime.
Black Eye Peas even managed to screw with that. I kept hearing him say "yeah" into the mic while Slash was trying to play. Shut up, one of my generation's greatest guitarists is trying to play!
The only good part of the half time show was Slash and he didn't sing a note.
I turned the channel after she flubbed the words. I thought it was sounding bad, and I like Christina a lot. The messed up words made my choice easy...change the channel temporarily till it was over.
I didn't like the version of America The Beautiful either but her voice was good, it was just a not so good and over produced version.
Have you guys never heard that singing in a football stadium is the worst thing a singer can do? The acoustics are such that when the singer starts singing the second line, the FIRST line starts bouncing off the far wall of the stadium, a mile away and echos back at the singer.
Their impulse is to stop singing till the sound "catchs up" with them, but of course they can't do that because then there'd be dead silence. That's probably why Christina sang the same line twice. She got caught up with hearing herself. She was supposed to keep plowing through, and just keep singing.
Either no one told her what would happen, or she didn't bother to rehearse enough to know what to expect and sing through it all.
One of the few and best renditions of the national anthem was when Whitney Houston did it and did a fabulous job. Of course, then she got slammed,as she had pre-recorded herself to listen to while singing, put in an earphone in one ear to sing along to herself and put an ear plug in the other ear so she wouldn't hear the echoing.
People just can't win with the national anthem. It's all of ours, as everyone has an opinion about it. Some want to hear something other than the same old, same old. Others believe: don't screw with our national anthem.

Nope, I loved the half time show!
I LOVED the halftime show!!!! Thought it was awesome! Had me dancing and singing all the way through it.
I was a bit shocked to say the least at Christina Aguleria singing the National Anthem. Correct me if I'm wrong but did she get a lyric wrong?
