Did Christina Aguilara Just "scream" the Star Spangled Banner?

I thought that she messed it up and even said that to DH but he said that it was right... then I came on here! :lmao: I knew it!! glad I'm not crazy. I didn't like the way that she sang it at all. And her hair looked like a mess

Can't wait for Black Eyed Peas. I hope they don't let me down!!! I love them :lovestruc

She did a very poor job of it. Go to Fort McHenry, look over the cliff and then push the button to hear how it was supposed to be sung. Pub song? No. I get chills as I listen while looking out over the bay listening to our national anthem. The new artists do it no justice by making it their own rendition. Sing it like it was written. How many have totally ruined it? Dear Lord, Roseanne Barr did it better.:rotfl2:
On the other hand, I thought the half time show was great!

She got the lyrics right, but she chopped the song up.

I just listened. I didn't think it was that bad but she did fluff the words. I do prefer it sung as written.

No fluffing, she blew it. The line should have been, "O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming" CA belted, "What so proudly we watched, at the twilight's last streaming."

No she did NOT "scream" the national anthem.

She SCREECHED the anthem and flubbed the words too.

We had to mute the half-time show it was so bad. What a hot mess!

I just read about the ticket thing.
Our local station said Jerry Jone's was trying to beat an attendance record, and had seats in standing room only. I don't know why there was problems, but maybe they should have contacted Nascar. They can get people in and out of stadiums and out of parking lots very quickly. They deal with over 100,000 people each weekend attending their races.

I read they had to close 4 of the entrances due to concerns about the ice on the roof, which led to the extra long entrance lines.

The seating and entrance issues were in this article of the NY Daily News.

This NY Daily News article talks about CA botching the anthem. It includes a video at the end, but I haven't watched it yet because I'm listening to Illuminations on Live365. :rolleyes1

I wasn't watching the TV at the time they did the songs so I can't really comment. I thought the very beginning was good, but then I stopped listening. If it had been great, I would have kept listening.

The national anthem should be sung with pride, dignity and respect. I wish they would stop using celebrity singers who turn it into a grotesque rendition to reflect their own "style". They should just have the military academy choirs sing it, like in 2005 Super Bowl. Now that is everything the national anthem should be, and sung by those who has earned the right to do so. I bet THEY wouldn't ever screw up the lyrics either.

What part of the anthem did she botch? I couldn't understand her through all that screeching.

It was bad, very bad. I wish they would just use a good marching band for the anthem and the half-time show. The average high school band can do a much better job than most of the celebrities they use. It's like a contest to see who can be worse.

I was cringing while she sang! She has such a beautiful voice, she should have just sung it straight through without all the extra screechiness and the exaggerated highs and lows. And she sang soooooooo slow. It didnt bring tears to my eyes like other STB singers have.

Have you guys never heard that singing in a football stadium is the worst thing a singer can do? The acoustics are such that when the singer starts singing the second line, the FIRST line starts bouncing off the far wall of the stadium, a mile away and echos back at the singer.

Their impulse is to stop singing till the sound "catchs up" with them, but of course they can't do that because then there'd be dead silence. That's probably why Christina sang the same line twice. She got caught up with hearing herself. She was supposed to keep plowing through, and just keep singing.

Either no one told her what would happen, or she didn't bother to rehearse enough to know what to expect and sing through it all.

One of the few and best renditions of the national anthem was when Whitney Houston did it and did a fabulous job. Of course, then she got slammed, as she had pre-recorded herself to listen to while singing, put in an earphone in one ear to sing along to herself and put an ear plug in the other ear so she wouldn't hear the echoing.

People just can't win with the national anthem. It's all of ours, as everyone has an opinion about it. Some want to hear something other than the same old, same old. Others believe: don't screw with our national anthem.

I just read what she actually sang was "What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last reaming" Reaming! :headache:

She didn't sing the same line twice, totally twisted and botched that line. No mercy from me.

I've heard this.
And now I'm hearing Dory singing, "Just keep singing, just keep singing..."

It has got to be hard. Esp. when you try putting your own spin on it. Of course, this was too much of a spin.;) I'm betting she feels terrible. She can look so pretty and sing so beautifully--it makes you wonder what happened. I'm not even a fan of hers but I do think normally she has a powerful, beautiful voice and a lot of talent. I'm sorry she screwed it up--that's got to be horrifying.:headache::sick:

I was listening to Fox sports radio a little while ago and a couple of the announcers who were at the game said she was hitting the booze A LOT:upsidedow in the VIP tent before the game and her attempt at the national anthem. This might explain her performance.

Christina Aguilara was aweful... Right there with Rosanne Barr and R. Kelly in the hall of shame.

Ben Roethlisberger and the Black Eyed Peas have to be greatful that Aguilara was able to make their pathetic performances look good. :lmao:
