Yes, he was badly hurt Shirley - when the attack happened (right outside his house at 2am) his wife honestly thought he was dead. Also, the kids were in the back seat and saw the whole thing
Basically, because they couldn't park the car outside their house after returning from a late party, they temprorarily double-parked so they could drop the kids off (2 & 4 years old, it was cold, obviously late and they were in their jammies). Wifey got out to unlock the door at which point a car pulled up behind revving like mad and hooting because they couldn't get past. Wifey came back to the car (she was the driver because he'd been drinking) and drove down the street a bit till she could pull in and let them pass, but instead of them driving off, they pulled over too.
The driver got out the car, knocked him out cold with the first blow, then when he was unconscious on the ground he stamped & kicked him repeatedly on the head, across the throat and in the chest. It only stopped when a neighbour came out on the street and shouted out. He had a fractured eye socket, I'm not sure, maybe a fractured jaw, lost some teeth and others cut right through his bottom lip, and obviously he was very badly bruised about the face. They showed a picture last night of his injuries taken at the hospital, it was just awful
Nick Owen said last night that the charge was Grievous Bodily Harm or possible Attempted Murder. However, they were a bit cagey about it all in the Update as the information they had got was obviously good and they implied that they would be acting on it.
Our guy at work hasn't heard anything yet today so knows as much as I do at the moment, but he is hoping to hear something soon. Assuming I'm allowed to say it publicly, I'll let you know if there's any good news.
