Did anyone else find shopping for their wedding dress a really scary prospect?

I suddenly realised I'm going to have to go and try wedding dresses on in the New Year, and I felt sick to my stomach. I don't want a traditional wedding dress, and I'm far from slim, so this could be why I'm scared!!

Did anyone else feel scared going dress shopping??

i have to admit that i am scared also. my fear is i am short under 5 foot tall. so i am afraid of that.

I feel the same way. However, the way I'm going to do it is not even worry or think about it. I'm going to lose the weight and start my search 6 months out from our ceremony. It gives me enough time. You are beautiful no matter what! Have a magical day!

My main worry is I look older than I am (I'm only 21!)..... I also don't look like someone who is meant to be a bride (Non traditional or otherwise!) if that makes sense!? I know I'm probs in a tat over nothing, but I am really stressing out about this! Nice to know I'm not alone!

I can understand being worried. It can be overwhelming but enjoy it! Its such a fun time. When are you ever going to get to try on beautiful gowns like that again! Have fun!! :goodvibes

There is no need to be scared, i was a little worried going for my dress, i went to a very posh bridal shop for it and i look quiet young and i have bright red hair and i was bothered that i would be looked down on in there, but then i thought that this is one of the most exciting things about planning my wedding. So i just went in there excited about my big day and i had a wonderful time it is something i think you'll always remember so enjoy it!:cutie:

I had a great time shopping for my wedding dress. I was very scared before I went though. I am no where near being skinny, so I was terrified that I was going to look too fat in the dresses. But I felt beautiful the entire time. Take it from me, once you put on a wedding dress, you will feel beautiful no matter what. :)

I feel the same way! I think I had a post almost exactly like this one!I am SO not looking forward to trying on dresses! For me its a weight issue though.
I actually joined ww about 6 weeks ago, so far ive lost 4 lbs, its coming off slow, but I cant bring myself to try on dresses until i feel better about it.

I can understand being nervous and scared. There are so many options and choices that it can be hard to know where to start.

If I may make a suggestion, I went to Alfred Angelo and found my dress right away. I actually bought the first dress I tried on! They come in three different heights - 5'3" being the shortest. I'm 5'1" (on a good day) and I'm getting the 5'3" dress and I'm going to have it hemmed. My dress is currently on order and I can't wait for it to come in!

After I got over the shock that I was trying on a wedding dress, it was so much fun! When you find that dress you love, you'll know it!

Have fun! :)

Hey ladies! I have not gone to try on dresses yet either! I have spend hours searching online, and I have found a couple that I really like. This is a vow renewal for me, so I want something pretty, but not over the top. I am having pictures done at the castle in the MK, so it needs to be appropriate for that as well. As for the weight...well 3 kids in 3 years and 2 c-sections have done "wonders" for my belly!!!:rotfl: I am 5'2" and 160 lbs. 2 years ago, I was all the way up to 220, so I've worked really hard to get where I am, but the belly is still an issue. I have no idea what will look good on me, my body has changed so much from when I 1st got married.
I'm glad to hear that the Alfred Angelo dresses come in sizes for us short women!! I really love some of their designs.
I will be going in a couple of weeks to try stuff on. Good luck to all of you, and keep us posted.

I'm not looking for my dress yet as I have a long time until my wedding and I want to wait until I have my engagement ring.

Bu I can totally understand!!

I'm having a nightmare deciding which engagement ring to get, its such a final piece of jewellery, it just feels like too much of an important decidion to hvae to make! Same with a wedding dress! There are loads I think are stunning - but you only get one chance!!!!

So both prospects to me are very daunting! But the ring is causing me a lot of grief at the moment!!

Oh and Bob, don't worry about being slim, cuddly, whatever. You are a customer and a bride! This is your special day and special dress, and if any shop treat you as annything less than a princess then please just take your custom elsewhere!

People in bridal shops can be so snooty at times it takes believing, so find the right place for you and it will make the shopping for the dress all part of the fun of doing it!

I went in a bridal store to get a ball gown, an the woman was so unbelievably rude that I wont go in there for my wedding dress! But my mum and I often look in the window of a bridal shop in the town I live in (which is luckily an alfred angelo specialist store and he's my favourite!) and the ladies seem so sweet in there! They see us looking and come outside to ask me to go in and try stuff on, even though I say, "Oh im not getting married for 2 years" they always say I;m welcome and not obliged to buy or anything!

So hopefully i can get mine there, and you can find a place just as friendly!

Eeeep. look how much I babbled! Sorry!

I'm more worried about prices...I have a hard time spending the $$$ for a dress I'll wear for 2-4 hours. (We're having an escape) Oh well...

I'm glad I'm not alone! I'm more concerned because I can't find a dress I really like online, and because I'm not actually after a proper wedding dress I'm really worried they won't have any time for me in shops.... I do hope I pluck up the courage to go look soon!

Dont worry babes!! You'll find one! I keep seeing ones that make me think of you - I'll remember the designer next time!

I saw my dress in a picture first, I knew what my dress had to have, to be sure I would feel comfortable all night. I had to have sleeves. I found one with sheer sleeves that looked like a fairytale gown. I wanted it to be simple too. I tried it on and it was it. We were married at DW, and everyone thought it was perfect. Don't be afraid to try on, also don't let any employee make you feel inferior. If they do they need to find a different job!!!!

I'm planning on going this week to find a dress. I'm definitely anxious. I want to lose more weight before the wedding and I have a dress in mind that I really really like, and I'm terrified that I will see it on and be disappointed.

Jack bought me a new wedding magazine yesterday and there is an advert for beautiful dresses in there!!

Not been on the site but have a look:

www.kelseyrose.co.uk

Look a lot like the candy anthony, although i think the ad might only have the bridesmaid dresses but they are gorgeous and lush colours!!

I just wanted to put my 2 cents in, If you are bigger than a size 8, you NEED to call the shop to see if they have a range of larger sample sizes. I am a big girl, 22-26 depending on the dress, and I can not tell you how much calling ahead gave me a chance to prepare for it. I got lucky and the first place had a dress I loved and a large plus size selection, they treated me like a princess and made me feel beautiful. but the second place I went to was HORRIBLE and made me feel terrible about myself by making me feel like it was my fault for not being able to fit into a 8, and not calling ahead to see if they had any for me to try on. I did in fact call but to them a size 14 is plus. ASK if they have a few in your size or larger. If one shop gives you crap, dont give up!! There are better ones out there!!
