We are flying SW next week and I had planned to have DH and myself each carrying on a backpack and a diaper bag (2 kids) because I thought a diaper bag was considered a "Personal Item". But I was looking on SW site and diaper bag is not listed as a personal item, so should I be doing some re-arranging??? Thanx!

Ditto that - you won't have a problem. Also remember that you are allowed a carry on and personal item for each seat, so if you have a seat for each child you could conceivably have 8 bags to carry-on (that would be too much for me to navigate personally, but we did 5 between DH and DS and I on one quickie trip that we didn't check luggage on). Happy packing!

The diaper bag would count as a carry on but as KristinU said, if you purchased a seat for the kids they each get 2 carry ons. You currently have 4 carryons left if needed.

Folks always need to be prepared for full flights, though, where the airline further limits carry-ons (to just one). There's only a limited amount of space in the passenger cabin for carry-ons, and when it is all taken, everything else must be checked.

While I do believe that this happens, I fly all the time, the flight are almost always FULL these days and I have never seen an airline limit carry on luggage to one bag. I especially cannot believe that SWA would even attempt to limit carry on baggage to only one piece per customer; many SWA flyers I have seen carry on everything short of the kitchen sink.

Another good reason to avoid Southwest! :rotfl:

DH and I had our carryons (rolling totes) taken and checked on our Las Vegas/LA flight in March. This was the first time I had ever had this done on many SW flights. I think though that route is probably a lot of travellers with only carryons so they stretch the limit. I was a bit nervous since I had medications etc in that bag and didn't have enough time to get anything out. I kept my purse and DH kept his laptop no problem. They held our other bags at the front until confirming everything was full and then put them with the other luggage down below.

This is really a warning call for passengers: Don't pack anything important or valuable in your carry-on: Always pack such things in a small bag that will unquestionably fit under the seat in front of you (even if you put that small bag in your carry-on). That way, if you have to check your carry-on, you can just pull out the essentials, and let them have the rest of the bag.

And if your valueables don't fit in the small bag, then you're bringing too many!
