Diamond Celebration: 24 Hour Event @ Disneyland Resort May 22-23!

So...looking backwards, this is the first time they've blocked out SC as well as SC Select. Not being a local (and being a bit lazy to find the perfect search terms, meaning I failed in two attempts), what's the breakdown of Deluxe versus the two SC passes? Is there enough locals on the Deluxe to counteract having both SC passes blocked out?

I think SoCal Select APs were there only ones blocked for last year's 24-hour event. SoCal, Deluxe, and Premium/Premier were all valid. From what I've read, with the suspension of the sales of new SoCal APs, there has been a shift towards more Deluxe APs. Either way, DLR must anticipate enough crowds of either Deluxe or higher AP and day guests to balance any losses from blocking the SoCal & SoCal Select APs.

I agree with figment. It's going to be packed regardless. My family falls into the "used to have the so cal pass, then got shut out because we didn't renew soon enough so we bought Deluxe passes" category and I know quite a few people who fall in this camp. Plus, I wouldn't be entirely shocked if some people upgrade to the higher pass just to get in.

Good enough. II would think that once you're in the park, it'll be fun no matter what. Figment, enjoyed your 24 Hr Day posts. For those others who have done it, can you name your top couple strategies for dealing with the more crowded hours?

I'm not sure I want to start a new thread for this question, so I'll just post it here. So -- the fireworks are going to be pretty spectacular, and I really want to be in a spot where I am going to get to really experience being immersed in all the projections that they are going to be incorporating. Where do you guys think is going to be the best place to be for this? My go-to fireworks spot in the past has always been by Small World, but I am wondering is being on Main Street is going to give me more of that all immersed feeling? What are you guys planning? Also -- I'm planning to snag a spot for the parade and then just hold on to it through the fireworks.

My plan is for Main Street, but in all fairness, that's always been my preferred spot anyway.

For fireworks I am debating Main Street or in front of its a Small World they are suppose to be doing something similar to the Christmas Show projected on its a Small World

I'm thinking I'll sit down somewhere along the parade route about 2 hours before Paint the Night, then stay put for fireworks too. I'm thinking that anywhere along Main Street down to Small World would work, wherever I can squeeze into and camp out for 2 hours and wait for the shows!

that sounds good, save us 3 seats :) just kidding, I am so excited though I am counting the days less than 16 til I arrive

Hey, I'm just hoping that 2 hours will be early enough to find a good spot! I'd be happy to meet up with anyone else who wants to share the spot with me! If you're at the DIS meet then maybe we can coordinate :)

The parade and fireworks are my biggest stress point. I think I'm going to shoot for main street, get there 2-3 hours early, bring plenty of snacks and maybe even my dinner with me, and try not to have to pee while I'm waiting. I'm so afraid I will lose my spot with the crowds!

I would seriously be interested in sharing a spot with you, especially since I will be going solo and worry about having to get up. I figured that I would just grab a corndog or something to eat while waiting, maybe bring a book, people watch, load some Disney movies onto my iPod. But I'm worrying about having to pee too!

Honest question. We've never been there on a truly busy day. If we're not complete sticklers for the best possible spot, should we be able to stroll on to Main Street around 9:15 or so and get somewhere where we can see the fireworks?

The busiest it has been on any of my trips was during christmas a few years ago. We did not make any special effort to find a spot to see the fireworks, and found that as long as you weren't trying to stand in a spot that the CMs are trying to keep open as a walkway, you can fit yourself in wherever you can. One of the nice things about the fireworks is that you can basically see them from most spots, but not all spots will give you a full view.

thanks for the replies -- I heard something in a podcast about the Matterhorn getting lit up as Mt. Wanahakaloogee (finding nemo) during the fireworks, and I really want to see that -- obvs I won't be able to see that from Main street, but I'm not sure which side of Matterhorn would get the projections -- I'm guessing from Small World? One the one hand I am really excited to see all this without knowing much in advance, but on the other hand, I wish I knew so that I could plan better!

It may be hard to get in because the parade will just be finishing up. That day will be crazy crowded. I was trying to figure out if we could watch the parade by the Matterhorn and move to the street area in front of the castle, and people weren't even sure that would be possible. If you don't want to watch the parade and wait it out, you could try watching the fireworks from another area of the park. We showed up for the Christmas parade too late and had a heck of a time trying to find a spot where our kids could see, and that was on a Monday in early December, it wasn't exactly packed, it's just that parades are popular.

Sounds like a great idea!

That was my plan too! :rotfl:Grab some dinner, find a place and relax and rest the feet for a little while I wait. Good call about the Disney movie, I might have to steal that idea. :goodvibes
