DW & I just got back. WAY better than Crystal Skull, but I don't think as good as Raiders nor Holy Grail. About on par with Temple of Doom.

You definitely need to suspend logic, but that's not unusual for an Indiana Jones movie. A number of good callbacks to previous movies. While not a requirement, watching 1-3 would help, and now that I think about it, 4 🤮 also.

I think I'd give it 4/5 stars.

My only complaint is the length. It was loooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggg.
That is true. But, if something interests me, I don't really notice the time. The only reason I noticed the length on this one is because I had to go to the bathroom for the last 45 minutes- 1 hour, but didn't want to leave the theater and miss something. :rotfl2:

Yeah, I generally think a lot of movies these days are too long, but it's not really a matter of lenght, but rather pacing. Like, I often say that The Last Crusade is "too long" but what I really mean is that it drags a little in the middle. With this one, even though it is longer, I did not feel like it has any slow stretches, so that wouldn't be my complaint about it.

Early first weekend box office numbers don't look very good. This movie has a massive budget, so unfortunately it has a lot of work to do in the coming weeks to not be a massive financial loss for Lucasfilm.

We saw it over the weekend. It was missing a lot of the humor Indy is known for. It’s too long and visually it’s very dark. Glad I saw it, but I’m big on nostalgic stuff. But it’s not a great movie.

ETA: I will add that we saw the original Raiders in the theater a few weeks ago (through Fathom Events) so it was very fresh in our minds and easy to make comparisons.

I wonder what is driving this though? 90-120 minutes used to be the norm, but most seem to be longer than 2 hours now. Seems like a 100 minute movie turns quicker in theaters and allows you the potential to make a good bit more money in the box office.

DH and I liked it. I do like some "downtime" in films (and books, for that matter), so that I can take stock and breathe a bit. I didn't find that was the case with this one -- it was one stressful thing after another after another.

You know, I'm not sure why the average run-time for "big" movies is so high now. They always try to cram in so much, and I think that's part of it, though audiences also respond to it. Honestly, I think it's because audiences like to see everything, particularly in genree movies and these superhero fans where everyone just squeals over every callback and reference. They also lack the ability to understand nuance and expect every detail to be spoon-fed to them. Like, how many people always joke about, "How did Indy ride that submarine in Raiders?" They act like it's a plot-hole. Can you imagine though if they added a 10 to 15 minutes to the movie explaining it? It would just ruin things - but that's how they'd do it today.

Totally agree. Titanic is a prime example. The run time for that is over three hours, but the pacing means it feels much shorter (to me). Dial of Destiny shows as nearly two and a half hours, but the pacing made it feel shorter.

For anyone who goes to see this, try to count how many modes of transportation Indy steals/commandeers. I think I count 7.

Car
Motorcycle
Horse
Tuktuk #1
Tuktuk #2
Boat
Car

I may have forgotten a couple.

Overall, I liked it. I really expected it to end differently, maybe sort of like what happened in Back to the Future. Was surprised at the abrupt end it did get. Waaaay better than the last one. I wonder if there are plans to expand the franchise with a new Indy?

I think I heard there may be plans to explore it on Disney+ with the God Daughter in a lead role. Not sure how well that would be received by your legacy Indy fans.

DW made a Back to the Future reference at the end of the movie also. :rotfl2:

For me it felt like 5 1/2 hours.

There were so many chase scenes just to have another Indy style chase scene.
