Does anyone know if the Disney resorts provide complimentary refridgerators for Diabetics? My hubby would need to store his insulin and we were wondering if we would have to pay to rent a fridge or if the resorts have a special place to keep his insulin that might be free? thanks in advance. princess:

Welcome to the DIS, Studentmom!

What resort are you staying in? Now, all moderate and deluxe resorts provide refridgerators free of charge. So basically, every resort except for the All Stars and Pop Century provide complimentary refridgerators. At those resorts, you are likely to have to pay $10 per night for the fridge.

We just got back from Pop and we needed a refrigerator for some medicine and there was no charge. Just tell the front desk that you need to store some medicine in it when you request it.

We stayed at the contemporary 2years ago, before fridge in the room was standard. We explained that we needed a fridge due to my son's special dietary needs, and there was no charge.

Actually, instead of paying $10 per night for the week we were there, we rented a VERY nice one from A Baby's Best Friend (www.abbf.com) for $45 for the entire week, and it held a lot of stuff. They have a photo of it on the website. With the $25 we saved we rented a microwave from them also.

They delivered it before we arrived and picked it up after we left, and was the easiest part of our trip.

I have been to WDW a dozen times. I have always required a refridgerator for medicine & never been charged. WDW is quite accomodating. If you get to resort before your room is ready, the front desk will also keep his meds in cold storage for you until your room is ready.
If he needs to carry an injection into the Parks, he can drop off his meds & supplies at First Aid. They will store it in their refridgerator. When it is time for his shot, he can go in & they will give him a private room to do his injection in. They have always asked me if I need any supplies, but I always carry my own. It is nice to know that if I forget alcohol swabs or something, that they can provide them for me.

Disney is very well equipped to deal with medical conditions. It is the easiest vacation destination for me in that regard.

Do You have to fill out any type of form or have anything signed by your DR? My DD takes medicine on a daily basis, that isn't "required" to be refridgerated but she won't take it if it isn't. Not sure if my Dr would sign any type of form that said "required" to be kept cold. Anyone know?
Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing about the form.
I was just recently prescribed something that needs to be refrigerated. mine does say so on the packaging. But I don't want to get down there and find out I needed a note.
If not will they store the meds for you for the entire trip? I'd hate to pay an extra $60 for it.

The disabilities forum covers this in detail. Hop over there and check it out.

We stayed at the Radisson Parkway the last time we were in Florida and I just told them at the front desk that my husband has medication that needs to be kept cold at all times and there was no charge. DH told me once that his dr. told him that a refrigerator must be provided free of charge at a hotel if medication is to be kept cold. I've thought of keeping it in the mini-bar fridge that's in the room which is full of goodies but I'm afraid to even touch it.

My son has type 1 diabetes and we've been to Disney every year since he was diagnosed and we've never been charged for a refrigerator.

All of the deluxe and moderate resorts now have refrigerators in the rooms.

A fridge for medical reasons has always been free. They used to have a policy of a small fee for every day you had the fridge if it was just for snacks.

But a fridge for special diet, meds, or even milk for a baby was always free.

I guess all deluxe & mods have free fridges now though?
